Rattley JD exhausts

I have several JDs all of them rattle but one 6620 is particularly bad. At a loss. Checked heat shield not cracked that I can see, all Allen bolts tightened, checked rubber mounts but it’s still driving me mad, it’s by far the loudest noise in the cab. I should say that engine runs very nicely so doubt this is any sort of factor. There must be something obvious I’ve missed. @Phil P @Tractortech and anyone else. TIA

Sound like the baffles inside the exhaust have broken off their spotwelds. Only repairs would be new exhaust or cut open the existing one, reweld the baffles them weld it back together.

Are there baffles in the pipe? This is where noise is worst.

My 6620 rattled but found a crack in heat shield and repaired and far better.i think things rattle at a certain idle speed.another50 rpm makes a huge difference

Agree with you about rpm but as said in OP no heat shield cracks. OTOH @Phil P the bracket that we welded that holds silencer clamp on has broken again so I will buy another one this time. Thanks

Our 10 series rattles where the pipe that goes along under the cab meets the upright stack... don't know if it's the same design on the 20's but the 4cyl are worse for it than the 6cyl..

Now Then..
I usually have the tractor running at the revs where the rattle is. Then gently poke and prod it. Most times you can make it rattle and stop it too then it's easy to work out.
Generally they're OK..
