I went to Brymore a farming school in somerset whilst there it was apparent the different names that people from around the country gave to the same machines, animals and equipment as well as disesaes and infections

so what do you call the things that are on the front and back of trailers to stop bales falling off (usually little bales if you can remember those things)

and when preparing hay for the baler are you rollering, rowing up, walling, or laneing

and my favourite was a chap from warwickshire who told me about summer garget

Hay trailer gates are flakes round here, rowing up is rowing up but sometimes referred to as going on the rake.

Lades down here. And rowing or raking for grass.

And draying rather than carting/leading/hauling etc

Yep.

Hay is rowed up, baled, put onto a trailer (often with a pick) with lades on the front and back, and then put into a tallet with an elevator so that it can be fed to cows in the shippon down below.

Happy memories of drinking zider on dimpsey evenings after draying bales.

Them 'up country' types speak a whole different language to us 'proper job' Devonshires...
