Recently has an eye test resulting in requiring reading glasses. Went thought options of lenses and frames etc as all new to me ending in £327 total including £40 test. Opted for anti glare and 2yr scratch warranty are these fancy add ons or worth while having for manual workers.

Eye test/glaucoma test, full monty (free because of glaucoma history)

3 pairs of glasses - readers/driving/driving sunglasses all for under £100 from specsavers + a voucher for a 4th pair of whatever at half price still to use.

Off the shelf supermarket specs ruin your eyes.

Do you drive with your reading glasses on?

Eyes are important without doubt but I have reading glasses that cost £2 off ebay and they are fine. No they are not anti glare but they are reading glasses not driving glasses.
No I drive with proper prescription glasses, I'm pretty sure that is what the OP is referring to, think my last 2 pairs were around £150, as it happened the frames I liked were not dear

I fell for the £200+ reading glasses from the opticians ....they lasted less than a week before I squished them [emoji22]
Ever since its been 5 pairs for £9.99 from Amazon ....much less painful when you sit on them or lose them ...
Yip, I've broken two pairs and only started wearing them August of this year, we may need glasses but they certainly see some of us coming.

Unless a complex prescription, it's usually the choice of frames that makes a massive difference to price. Don't forget that you should get a copy of your prescription so you can buy even prescription glasses wherever you want, it does not have to be where you had your sight test.

I need a reasonable complexed prescription and I value my eyesight so I go to a good independent optition, yes I could maybe save a little bit going elsewhere, but I'd rather skimp on something else

I don’t have reading glasses but mine are for long distance, I paid £25 :scratchhead:
It was an extra £25 for the test but my work pays that, I didn’t get anti glare as my old pair have that so couldn’t be bothered to pay the extra, I think at the time any frames over £49 included anti glare.
I’d never pay that much :wideyed:

I'm like @llamedos , glaucoma in the family, so tests are free, opticians will try to con you in to thinking only they can supply your specs.
You can just take the prescription and go where you want, there are online suppliers, but that's akward if the arms need a bit of adjustment, fortunately there is a place in Holmfirth were we can go to save a lot of money.

All mine are the cheapest bought online with the prescription supplied by my optician. Expensive glasses? What's going to happen to them? Taken out to the workshop for reading manuals, etc., then shoved into my pocket when I go to the machine, then lent on and broken!

Why do I need an optician to bend the arms into the required shape? And I can measure my pupil distance by looking in a mirror. I once had a friend who was an optician and he was a very wealthy man and I've a rtetty goo guess why!

Test should be free on nhs every two years, less if you feel your eyesight changing.
No anti glare or insurance here, scratched a lens at harvest time, just been to Specksavers, £37 for a replacement lens fitted, bi focal so charge for two cuttings apparently! Still a long way short of your quote, if this is your first glasses your eyesight will probably change again within 2years so not worth paying top dollar for your first set, if its for reading only its also worth having a spare pair or two of off the shelf reading glasses lying handy cause sure as hell you'll forget the prescription ones sometime.

You may get it free in Scotland, not all do in England.

Opticians are shysters, but the worst are the high street shysters.
I use titanium frames you can do what you want, but they wont break.
So last time went to specvis***** express had new pair of glasses.
After 2 weks they split , ok yes I had sat on them in my back pocket but this is not what I expected.
Took them back and girl said said, I quote, “if you bought “Diesel” glasses you would not expect to run your car on them”.
After 2 pairs lasting about 2 weeks each , went back to my original optician and paid the price.
These frames are 4 years old on their second set of lens.
I discovered all frames are available on the net for about £2-10 including brazed titanium. Welded Titanium start at £100. If you ask the experts titanium cannot be brazed
