Real odd one?

This better not end up as a dead horse thread.
Well if he doesn’t come back, or we don’t find out what he is carrying for an idea.. or police end up matching it with something else, sadly might.
been looking on web if anyway of using an app or something to better view the images to work out said object..
The part hanging is not a pull cord by looks it’s a rope like handle, maybe something used to peg it down to floor.
the top part could be an opened bag, and handle area but why not carry it by it..
The pole end he’s carrying it from could well be a tripod? But it definitely attached to the middle of it, that he is carrying it then from so could there be something else that is attached at the end but it doesn’t poke out in front of him, apart from what could possibly be a short bit of the pole going no further than 2-3 inches out in front of him,

It’s more so annoying not knowing what it is

still given us something to be all curious about 😃

Very intriguing. Walking a long distance, using NVG’s and carrying an unusual piece of kit. That is quite a lot of investment, so the reward has to be worth it.

Can I ask what part of the country you are (roughly)? Sabs/poachers/baiters is possible but as you’ve mentioned, you have mostly ruled these out. I’m also curious what else may be in the wider area that may attract attention.

A pity that you can’t get the video uploaded.

Dorset,
I could upload a video but with everything being said I’m just not sure whether it’s a good idea in case anybody watching this page has any involvement in it, sabs etc or anything along those lines might use pages like this for their own insight of what people talk about on a farmers point of view.. and use it for their gain against us? Or
they might know what this person is up to and have the contact from there to contact them, if that makes sense? Maybe I’m sketching? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Only had it 2 days so not much yet. Unless it tally’s with something that’s happened else where can’t see they can do much with it though. But with luck it will help by bring a Piece of the puzzle with something that they already have going on somewhere 🤞
Similar think happened here a while ago and we had people on trail cams 3.30 am wandering around ?
Local hobby Bobby no ideas ,but more pestering to Head Quarters and apparently was a man hunt in area ?
Funny things go on at night????

My sister was just telling me they were called out in the middle of the night on the estate near Oxford and it was two nighthawkers on an ancient monument. They kept them until the police turned up, but the coppers said they couldn't see that they were doing anything wrong and let them go. Trouble is, it spoils it for the decent folks.

Got to be so much stuff that goes on at all of our places at night that would really make us question what people are up to.
Only when the court that it shakes us up or makes us a bit more apprehensive.
Was it the police that was hunting for a man on your incident?

I have to say though the police around here are a credit to what they do, they actually do bother, I have found when you report stuff they make an effort and look into it, and actually do have a decency to come back and let you know if or not they have found or got anything from anything.

It’s sad isn’t it, because if they’re walking over a place like that they’re most definitely obviously up to looking to be taking something.
It’s a shame that they haven’t got a bit more resources for things like this as then when they go on and do the crime they would have more clout. But you’re so right it does spoil it for others 😏

It’s funny how folks minds work 😂

We have a drug dealing badger badger who might murder you and is waltzing around with a set of NV Google’s on.

Right 😂

Lots of folk do lots of things at night from the legal to the very illegal and many shades in between.

For the record - you can see most trail cams which can take photos at night when you are wearing or using NV equipment as the trail cams emit an IR light which can be seen by the NV.

Still laughing at the Murderous badger baiter idea. You sure it’s not hare coursers ? 😂 😂 😂

Does that include the Bushnell ‘black flash’ trail cam? I’ve never seen an IR light on that.
Poor guy probably came home and found a Hermes ticket saying that his parcel had been left in the nearest safe place

😂😂😂

Yes it was coppers but never got back to us about it, we had to press to get response!
Good job we don't know half that goes on at night.

I'm well aware of how things work In murky circles. I think this chap is searching for Escobars Fortune and he's found it on your land.

10k 20k 100k someone's got excited.

Yes i believe so, there is still an IR illumination i believe but not in red so it’s invisible to the naked eye. But the IR Illuminator on decent NV should still pick it up.

However if someone was smart enough to run about burying drugs in remote locations and run about at night with NV goggles you would think they would pick somewhere unlikely to have a trail cam on it or check in day time etc. It deffo happens but easier places I’m sure.

I use thermal now and that’s a hole changer, combining thermal, NV, GPS and all kinds of other bits you can pretty much go where you like with no one being aware.

Yes, you don't want to jeopardise any potential future case, and you're absolutely right, that criminals, sab's etc. do use social media and these types of forums for their research and intel gathering. But it would have been useful to watch this guys movements, how he walks and bearing, and the movement of whatever it is that he is carrying.

It is difficult to work out exactly what it is. Because of the size of the object there has to be an element of weight, even if its light, but given that the object stays in roughly the same position (not going up and down as the person walks) then there has to be a counter-balance at the front, out of sight of the camera, at the other end of the pole/bar. The angle does suggest that it is heavier at the rear than at the front. I tend to think that rules out a hole borer as they are unevenly balanced, and I suspect too heavy to be carried with such ease as you mentioned.

I think that I can make out at least one, if not two, poles/bars going from the object at the rear towards the persons front. And what appears to be handles, and what could be the power unit of a strimmer seem to be too close together to be a strimmer. Or are some adjustable/telescopic? I'm not a strimmer or hole borer spotter/expert. Is the strap seen hanging down a safety tool to attach to a harness, an anchor point, a starting pull-cord, or an extension cord to a battery pack carried on the back? Is the bulk shape a power unit and handles or even clamps that would go around a tree branch? Are we looking at the top, side or bottom? Is it been carried back to front?

Something fishy to be wandering around at that time of night, using NVG's and walking all that way.

Quite unlikely (but not entirely impossible), there is quite a lot of military activity in and around Dorset; Royal Armoured Corps at Bovington, Royal Signals at Blandford Forum, UKSF at Poole, and Fleet Air Arm and Army Air Corps at Yeovil, with lots of flying throughout the area. Worth storing in the back of your mind, especially if you're near any of these units or close to/on a military training area.

To be honest, it could be anything, from one extreme to another - a lot of which has already been speculated in this thread.

You've done the right thing, and handed the SD card over to the police, for their official enquiries. See what comes of that, if anything.

I would maybe follow up with any local badger conservation groups, to see if they know of any setts in the area that perhaps you're not aware of. And perhaps get in touch with the local Forestry England/Commission office to see if they have seen anything similar going on across their local patch.

We have a guy come up our lane as we are on a hill and in middle of no where with a massive telescope star gazing, out of the way of light pollution from the town.
