Looking at getting into Rearing dairy beef x’s. Looking to buy in at around a month old and sell at 4 months. Would it be worth doing on a small scale? Would be looking to start small and gradually expand if possible.

Also any recommended rearer feeds/milk powder?

Would buying from market be a good idea or would trying to buy straight out of a dairy farm?

We rear calves to stirks. The only thing i would say is its hard and expensive to keep them moving when you buy them and sell them for a profit at 4 months. Its also a funny age as usually people want either calves or young stores we've switch to selling at between 8- 12months and i find there is more buyers and the calf has time to adapt to your system and start growing and it also gives the inevitable bad doer time to grow abit.

When you say small scale how small a scale? Is it worth doing? Only if done well. By straight from farm if possible and have matching bunches which will be easier to sell at that age. 20 calves of 4 breeds and both sexes will be hard to batch up.
