I'm a complete dumbass, so please may someone explain to me what this is all about?

Actress Maxine Peak Tweets about US Police learning the controversial chokehold detention method from Israeli security services. Ms Long-Bailey retweets it and is sacked by a jumpy Kier Stamer worried that the comment is seen as anti Semitic. Labour have struggled to shed that image, especially after Jeremy Corbyn's long history backing Hammas against Israel - more about supporting David vs Goliath I suspect.

Should this be in the WTF thread? Is the world going mad or am I just becoming an old fart??

Starmer is right to sack Long Bailey. Her job is to hold the government to account and not to help Maxine Peake promote her latest project. Long Bailey is a long time supporter of Corbyn who didn’t deal with antisemitism in the Labour Party. Some members of the left have an anti Israel fetish has lead to some really nasty abuse handed out to Jewish members of the party. I completely accept that neither Corbyn or RLB are in anyway antisemitic but they should have completely and unequivocally disassociated themselves from elements of their support long ago IMO.

It was the right decision to to sack Long Bailey. She ignored Starmer's requests to remove the offending article, even after Peak had taken it down on her site. A straight forward challenge to his authority from the last of the Corbynistas in office. (y)
I 'liked' your post .....however she can come and work for me if she wants !!

I don't see anything wrong with Israeli security services methods,
I don't see anything wrong talking or tweeting about the rights / wrongs of it,
I don't see it as anti Semitic.
Glad to see Long Bailey go however. If Starmer keeps sacking party members for no good reason, there'll be none left.
A few weeks ago, I thought Starmer had what it takes to lead the Labour party to victory at the next GE. He seems to be making the same mistakes as his predecessor though , pandering to the vocal minority and alienating his core voters. He really lost the plot " Taking the knee ". Just as well there's no Glastonbury this year, otherwise he'd be making a fool of himself there " Getting down with the kids ".
Oh well, no skin off my nose.

It's just the kicking off of Labour's 'civil-war', which has been inevitable since their election disaster. (y)
It doesnt seem to be "kicking off" to me. I think he is quietly and effectively getting rid of all the crap in the party. He got rid of the troublesome woman who ran the party machine(cant remember her name) ,and replaced by a moderate, without many people noticing. He is making a decent go of it up till now.

I've a good friend who is in the party and shares your view about Sir Keir, so far. But he, my friend, is equally sure that the Momentum mob (and friends) won't be as easy to get rid of as most are hoping.

bit of a dilemma for me, seeing the back of the nutters and getting a credible opposition is good, in fact the latter is a necessity in a democracy. But I quite like seeing Labour up sh!t creek.

On balance my democratic leanings win and I'll be glad to have a working democracy again. And, anyway, I don't think that the socialist Sir Keir is as great as many claim, merely far less awful than his predecessor. :)
