Well after todays announcement from the Bank of England , there is something very very very wrong in the system...

So... let me get this straight:

* British Gas made a profit of £1.3bn between January & June
* BP announced profits of £6.95 billion between April and June alone
* Shell has profited by £9.4bn in a year

The MEN at the top:
* John Pettigrew, boss of National Grid received £6.5m bonus on top of his salary
* Chris O’Shea, chief executive of British Gas owner Centrica was paid almost £2m last year in salary and benefits
* Centrica's non-executive directors were paid almost £1m
* Scottish Power's CEO Keith Anderson is on £1.15m.
* E.On boss Michael Lewis is on £1m
* EDF's Simone Rossi is also on £1m
* And their top execs enjoyed a share of £4.65m
* Peter Simpson of Anglian Water earned a £1.3m pay package
* Welsh Water bosses awarded themselves bonuses of over £930,000
* Severn Trent bosses awarded themselves bonuses of £5.56m

* Thames Water's Sarah Bentley, received a £727,000 bonus on top of her £2m annual salary

Meanwhile there are...

* People who haven't had breakfast and/or lunch TODAY, because they can't afford it.
* People using FoodBanks because food is becoming more of a luxury than a necessity.
* Children celebrating a birthday without presents.
* Parents worrying about new school uniforms - and some schools enforcing rules which are not cost-effective.
* People who can't get to work because they can't afford to put petrol in their cars/pay for public transport anymore.
* People who are working so much they're making themselves ill, and they STILL CAN'T AFFORD to pay their bills.
* People who have been given fines by these same energy/water companies because they couldn't afford to pay their bills in the first place - increasing their debt.
* Customers being told to do STAR JUMPS TO KEEP WARM for crying out loud!
* Hose pipe bans when gallons of water leak away everyday.
* Elderly people NOT DRINKING because they're worried about running out of water!!!

All this and energy prices are set to rise up to 75% in October...

THIS IS MADNESS!.. I'm all for supporting profits ..I'm not for supporting greed at the cost of lives of others..

Something needs to change..

Why are customers' money being used to make life more comfortable for those who are making life more intolerable for the rest of us?
I actually don't understand how the energy companies are allowed to get away with this and why the government aren't stopping them instead of handing out money.....
The land of opportunity that everybody wants to come too🤒

Great post.
Talking to my brother (still in England) the other day and he says the people really getting shafted are those with decent but fairly low paying jobs who cam't claim any benefits but don't really earn enough to pay a mortgage/rent and be ok. Everything's designed to take more money off them.

There's the mega rich at the top who keep giving themselves pay rises, then a group doing very nicely, often because previous generations have set them up with money and property and paid for education. They still get the flash houses, multiple holidays, nice cars etc without a lot of effort.

Then there's a group of lazy benefit scrounging wasters, who play the system for all its got with no intention of working, pleading poverty while holidaying and pi**ing money up the wall.

At the bottom are the workers who keep the country running - perhaps the only ones working during the early days of the pandemic? - They pay for everything do all the crap jobs and prop everything up.
They seem to get the blame for everything too as the elites and scroungers look to pass the buck.

I've written this time and time again. It's called fudge you capitalism and it needs to stop. I want to tax these people and put the smackers on companies paying people like this. That money was generated from within the UK from the UK populace and far more of it belongs in the piggy bank of the exchequer. Maybe then we shouldn't have such high levels of public debt, roads that aren't ever repaired properly and public services that work and better yet, protect and enhance the lives of millions of people who are have nots and will never be haves unless something systemic is changed.

Vacancies everywhere round here too. And very few applications as well!
One of the reasons for the vacancies in my opinion is no one wants to be an employee any more and its easier than ever to set yourself up as self employed so you can pick and choose what you do, when you do it.
How many people on TFF are employees? You'd think there'd be loads because farming doesn't pay but people get by without having to work to someone else's clock.

Unfortunately our political system allows them to donate to politicians of all parties, and locks the injustice into the system.

I know country's been in a pickle since '08, but maybe rates should've been running at 2-3% for last 15 years.
I’d count the country being in a recession since 07/08. It’s never got out of it. The real inflation must be 10% since the. Hidden behind low interest rates and “cheap” finance.
How many house holds then would have owned their car/shirt on their back to who pay monthly for everything now, basically renting their lives on a monthly basis

The land of opportunity that everybody wants to come too🤒

Indeed. From Russian Oligarchs to impoverished Somalis. From Saudi princes to Filipino nurses. Some arrive by Superyacht, others by private jets. Most by commercial airlines, ferries and buses. The most unfortunate and possibly keenest by dingy or in the rear of a fridge trailer. Some positively encouraged some positively denied access. Funny old world.

There are so many total arseholes who own “estates “ (farms) now with no clue, they are the ones that cant get staff

anyone over 50, that seems by all reports most of the population? has seen and been through bad times and coped, i remember as school kids the three day week in the early 1970s, when the UK only had electric for 3 days a week, winters were also colder then, but we coped, my father always said downturns, recessions, sort the "men out from the boys", meaning that many people and businesess have been spending, borrowing recklessly, living "high on the hog" with seen it round here time and time again people, or businesses that seem to have it all, big new cars , big mansions, kids at public school etc, all on borrowed money? The millenials, that is youngsters born in the 1990s-2000s they have grown up with have it all, daddy paid for it all, gap years and the like, they in my opinion will find it tough

Did I dream it or did Edward Heath not bring in some sort of universal wage inflation formula which boosted hourly rates automatically at a regular flat rate according to the rate of inflation 😳🤔

I guess the other side of the coin is these people are then taxed at effectively over 50% where as if the money stayed in the company it would be taxed at 19% or less on those profits, it’s bit like footballers massive pay quoted but by the time they pay over 50% tax the NI & then their agent takes probably a 10% cut what’s left doesn’t look quite so much, gross pay like gross profit is a bit misleading, it’s nett that you end up with that never looks so good!
