Gone from a old type on a bottle then tried a gas cartridge one all i know came in red plastic box then up graded to a larger one that also takes a larger gas cartridge can't remember the make of both but they seem to always play up. Just want a good un that does the job without all the flaffing about .

Not really, Shave a patch off where the bud is, paste on, then wrap a piece of masking tape all the way round the calves head to stop the cow licking it off (usually drops off a day later)
So much easier than burning horns

tried paste for a couple of years, had a few not getting fully dehorned and a bit of a faff having to keep calf separate for a while to stop cow licking paste off or calf rubbing it off when suckling, gone back to using the gas

Paste, far easier, trim with rounded end scissors to find the bud, then paste on, don't bother masking over it, usually not a problem with the cow licking it off

Sounds reasonable, how many do you have ready for them at a time?

block calve, 50/60 depending on what we keep, and what is polled, 4 to 8 weeks, just show them the pens, and off they go. They inject a strong sedative, knocks them out, and pain killer after.
It's one of those jobs, we keep putting off, if we do them, and then they are to big, end up wiring a few off. No doubt the price will go up, everything else is, there's 60 waiting for them, some may be polled, due january.

I use an express dehorner, had it around 5 years now, probably does 300 a year
