Recommend me an oil boiler for central heating only.

Would you buy a new tractor and stick a second hand engine in it if you had it laying around
Well wouldn't buy a new tractor 🤣 .....
And doubt there would be an option to buy it without the engine in new , but was just interested to know if there was an option of buying the shell as burner is good if a shell was the right money , but get ur drift 👍

Had a Firebird here outside in a Cabinet... Absolute gash... Constant faults and repairs... Parts always on backorder as well.

Worcester Bosch now... Faultless other than in Strong Winds initially, and that was the direction it's stack was facing.

I suppose people put their boilers outside to save space, but I love having mine in a full height cupboard in the utility area. The controls and pipework are on one side and there are coat hooks on the other with a rail at about 6' high for coat hangers. Wet clothes dry easily and the outdoor clothes are nice and warm to change into when going outside into the cold.

Its space saving generally, personally I like them outside for servicing, to many nowadays are so difficult to get to as they're either rammed in a cupboard which is full of stuff that nobody thinks to clear, or somethings been put in front of them that you cant move so you cant kneel in front of the boiler. Its not good for the back working at 90 degrees in a small space with no room for vacuum cleaner and/or tool box.

However they want to try and dress it up oil boilers haven't seen the big changes gas boilers have like modulating burners. In essence they are still just a fire in a box. Anything more complicated than that is asking for trouble imo (like worc bosch did about 15 years ago but i think they did simplify them soon after). Grant have always tended to be a fair chunk heavier than others due to using thicker steel, coupled to arguably the best burner would be my preference (i have one here 15 yr old).

Wish I could explain the system as its a mess. Even our local plumber looked at it and scratched his head and could not make heads nor tails of it.

There is a woodburner which is actually a large jacketed pipe with a door on one end and a flue on the other the water in the jacket is heated by the fire. In parallel to this woodburner is an oil burner so we can use one or both of them. There is a single pump pumping hot water, fed from the woodburner and oilburner, into the house to feed the radiators and in the loft is a cold water storage cistern to ensure there is water in the system.

Hot water for shower etc is created by a separate cylinder.

So the plan for next year is to put a buffer tank with the woodburner to be able go cope with the "uncontrollable" heat source, install deaeration and magnetic cleaning, and install a mixer putting the heat sources on a separate loop from the house.
Right, so it’s a pumped gravity system.
How big is the house, how many bathrooms etc

We had a good one about a month ago..
Boiler was in the garage. But the garage had then been converted to living area. The boiler had been boxed into a tiny room in the back, with access through the house to get to it. Through, I'm not kidding, a 2ft doorway. Had to go through it sideways, then turn and go round the boiler to access it 🤦‍♂️ What the hell they'll do when it comes to replacement 🙈

Outside is so much easier.
