Spend the money on auto gates and fences - since doing so we have had no trouble at all

Auto gates scare thief’s

Too many contractors coming into my yard to the estate maintenance shed for auto gates. They would be good though. Just a code that we change regularly would be practical (y)

Traffic barrier for daytime use?

Local yard here has a barrier for daytime use, and a gate (not sure if elec or manual) that is put across outside of business hours.

Would it b possible to rig up a siern/alarm outside the shed to activate say ten seconds after the door has been opened unless a hidden switch is pressed, just wondering,i live half mile away from yard but parents are just across the yard and would give dad a chance to put the double barrel out the bedroom window...

Yes, it's called an alarm system.

We have a system that allows access via phone to people you allow in , you can allow different people dial in access at different hours / days etc

You can also use keypad code, again different codes for different time or day restrictions fit different people - ie our postman has a code that only works Monday-Saturday mornings

So we have a “trades” code 6am -9pm but won’t work outside that Monday to Friday and a staff code 24/7

Staff can also dial in using phones to open Or we can text the gates to latch open or close etc

Several different companies rent units in our yard - they all have parameters set for their staff / management / contractors / deliveries etc

Intercom for visitors numbers in sequence so in hours - office, house, my mobile, dads mobile etc out of hours house, my mobile, wife’s mobile etc - different button on intercoms fit each business

Brilliant system - very flexible and you can even use it to check time sheets etc !

I will add also that in my experience CCTV is a waste of time and money - all it gives you is the pleasure of watching yourself being robbed - the police won't use it and it doesn't deter criminals
Cctv is very limited in its effectiveness. 90% of the time crime seems to happen in the dark so all you see on cctv is a scrote with a hoodie who looks very similar to any other scrote. However get a big floodlight and you may have a chance of identifying them.
Beam alarms and loud siren and lights that come on and stop on for a good period are best. Ideally linked to a light that comes on in a nearby house.
But at the end of the day just be aware that less than 5% of crime gets a successful detection and prosecution. YES 5%!! And then the sentences that are given out are virtually no deterrent.
So prevention is better than cure.
Look at perimeter alarms.

Visible CCTV is more of a deterrent to them checking the place out first. They are inherently lazy and will just look for lower hanging fruit elsewhere. If they really want to come in, they will regardless of what you do to prevent them. I’m not about to get full fencing and a big nasty dog which would be the best.

I don’t think they are bothered about CCTV at all - they know the police will rarely use it

You have to physically keep them out IMO
