Recorded Easycare Tups @ Worcester Sale

Been down a few times to buy but this year I am bringing down three shearling tups to the Easycare sale at Worcester Mart, this Saturday 23rd September, Lots 1085-1087.

These tups are fully performance recorded by Signet. This involves tagging at birth (90% done outside) to record pedigree, weights recorded at 8 and 21 weeks plus muscle depth ultrasound back scanning. Myomax testing and selection also carried out. All this is in addition to culling for traditional 'easy care' traits e.g. good feet, problem-free lambing and good mothers, full shedders etc. I work away from the farm for three long days each week and have a young family, so little time for problem sheep or freeloaders!

The performance recorded flock of about 140 ewes (and expanding) are run alongside a commercial flock of Easycares on my exposed, coastal farm in the Eastern Scottish Borders. These tups have been on grass ONLY all summer and wintered on hay and buckets.

Lot 1085: Top 10% index (Top 5% muscle depth EBV)
Lot 1086: Top 10% index
Lot 1085: Top 25% index (Top 5% muscle depth EBV, one copy Myomax minimum)

Please get in touch by PM or phone for any further information regarding these tups, or preliminary enquiries for next year. Photos and Myomax results to follow.

The boys are now inside getting used to hay again instead of green water before their long trip south.

Best of luck tomorrow Barry. It will be interesting to see how recorded tups get on at the sale. Are any of these by your shedding Texel? They certainly look well.

Thanks! Currently imbibing Dutch courage in a local hostelry.

Lot 1087 is by the shedding Texel. Lot 1085 is by a homebred son ( a real meatball) that I've just sold to Glasgow University's farm to put some more muscle on their Easycares.

Females sold fairly well on the whole. Strong trade for Rams, unfortunately the trade eased a bit towards the end. Great to catch up with a lot of friends and acquaintances including many forum members.
