mmm and you where here where you to know that where you?.... so no... I'm not and did not project anxieties and feelings onto animal behaviour, I'm explaining what happened, THE WAY IT HAPPENED, and there's no denying it (so why even TRY talk like you think you know what happened, when you DON'T??), because to boot when the horse went nuts by the sight of their car, as well as them! perhaps you need some one to back a car in one of your horses stables, the horse in question was a youngster and a lot of time had been put into her to get her right....but hey given your profile image (and not much else to go on) i suppose that's part of your job, so i don't suppose sheep would be effected in the same way, given the size and weight comparison, unless you ride your sheep of cause!:unsure: ... which may raise questions if you answer that....so unless the answer is no, id suggest perhaps you don't! don't get me wrong I'm sure sheep have their own challenges as do cattle! I'm sure plenty get killed or injured by selfish individuals causing farmers thousands in losses.... as far as the situation i describe long and short of it is you don't know, so what was that comment about?
Out of interest what is the price of a new set of horseshoes now ?

If you ride with the attitude you show in your posts I fear he is assuming correctly.

People commonly attribute negative animal behaviour to individuals they do not like to control them or diminish them in the eyes of others/raise thier own social status in thier peer group (in the old days you could accuse people of witchcraft, thats unlikely to be taken seriously now so...) and/or project thier own worries and dislikes onto an animal so avoiding confronting and taking responsibility for thier own feelings. eg the nutter who strangely has only ever owned animals that "don't like men".

Anyway, I only dropped into the last page of this to see WHAT THE PRICE OF DIESEL WAS atm. Maybe I should have a read back through or go to the PRICE TRACKER

Well if prices have gone up, id ask a farrier in your own area, if I where you! i can only give a rough idea off the last time, for two ponies it was around £30 each (no shoes but feet done!), as for larger horses I think it was £50 each set, the last time they came out, but I know he said prices had on up a bit, so its hard for me to say off the top of my head, and i presume prices will vary, dependant on who is doing it for you!

unfortunately your assumption is incorrect, and he was guessing incorrectly, but he has somewhat explained now, because i didn't know how to take that comment, words on a screen don't always project the way they are meant, but then that's perhaps why people should ask what is meant before assuming, and that is at least a mistake i can relate to!.... but when PEOPLE show attitude towards me, they get it back rather rapidly, its certain types of people I don't have patience for (especially shirt and tie pen pushers in london cocking up our country for profit and greed), and actually the attitude you claim i have, is called standing up for ones self, and not taking bull! the simple answer to that is be polite with me you WILL get the same back in return..... and as for riding.... i certainly don't treat animals like that thank you, i have more respect and love for them!

Looks like some more detailed explanations of the rules and regs has been forthcoming. I was sent a list of do's and don'ts by Certas:

No 3 is new (to me at least) - apparently now if a machine is kept and used on a farm for agricultural reasons, then it may do any other work on that farm, regardless of whether its a permitted purpose or not. So for example an excavator that does ditch clearing can also be used to dig out footings for a new barn, and a tractor that is used for farm work could be used to move manure from stables, or cut hedges around a field with horses in (this'll cause an explosion from our friend above). This is as long as everything takes place on the location the agricultural machine usually lives, you can't drive to other locations to do such operations.

Quote from the HMRC guidance:

An agricultural vehicle defined at paragraph 3.2, may use rebated diesel only when being used for:

  • purposes relating to agriculture (including aquatic farming), horticulture or forestry
  • cutting verges, hedges or trees that border public roads
  • clearing or otherwise dealing with frost, ice, snow or flooding including when the vehicle is going to or from the place where it’s used for these purposes, and for collecting and returning the necessary equipment and materials
  • any use on the land where it’s kept and mainly used for purposes of agriculture, horticulture, aquatic farming or forestry — for example, a farmer who has an agricultural vehicle on their land for use in agriculture, can use the tractor for any other purposes on their land
  • any use on a golf course, driving range, or land used by a community amateur sports club where it’s kept
To be honest its a bit unfair really. It means farms that have diversification businesses on site can continue to use red in farm machines used on those projects, but an identical business next door that isn't also a farm must use white for exactly the same jobs.
