Red diesel shortage?

Yup, its all clear diesel that comes in by ship up here and held in storage tanks, they just chuck some dye in it as they send it out. All the nonsense about tanks needing washed out after red has been in is nonsense. They use the the same road tankers here to deliver both types of diesel and they are never cleaned out before switching red to white.

A shortage of red diesel is not a thing. Either there is a shortage of diesel full stop or they are talking shite

If hire companies are refusing to have red in their machines….. perfect opportunity for a farmers to set up a hire business to other farmers.

Don't think so but not sure, vat on red & kero is 5%, after a certain quantity the vat rises to 20%.

It has been known for a delivery of say 5000L of red to be done on 2 different tickets to lessen the vat......I've been told.....
Yes and then they claim the VAT back for the full amount at the higher rate, used to be the vat fiddle all the plant hire boys used to use, am sure some still do.

Yup and yet for ploughing matches we've got to run on white, guess they'll be dipping us
I don’t get this. It’s an agricultural operation and also not not for hire or reward 🤷‍♂️ If you were going into town an rotovating a garden for money then I can see why you would need to be on white but ploughing in a field…. What’s the difference If there’s 1 tractor doing 50 acre or 50 tractors doing 1 acre…. With spectators 🤷‍♂️

If fair grounds can run on red for entertainment purposes, why can't ploughing matches? Both entertainment just to different members of society.

I know and most tractors are either lorried or trailered onto site anyway, but apparently that's the rules, same on the charity road runs. Tank got to be drained and run on white.
The Caravan Club will still run on red I bet (until their supplies run out) and then they'll just use white as all construction/plant hire kit will be running on it by then, easy pickings.
One benefit I see is that theft of cherry should all but disappear, it'll be easier for them to drain off white out of plant machinery.

The onus is now on fuel users to record what they use and in what machines
So farmer who uses only red for farming no problem
But some one who does both red and white jobs they need to record their individual machine usage

suppliers of red fuel also have to veryfy that the user is using it for farm or forestry
They will be in trouble suplying red to a non red user
Customs and excise have very strong powers of enforcement

Never given much thought to having red diesel monitored before , does which ever fuel comp you buy from put your name and address into a database or such like linked to HMRC's , or how does it work ?

“Well down here my supplier, they use 1 tanker for red/kero and other tanker for white/petrol”

I’ve never heard of that before for that reason as it must have logistical issues, not that I’m saying it doesn’t happen. I would think it will be more to do with the different vehicles not being able to load out of petrol storage/refineries.

I used to work for a company that had a selection of different sorts of tankers, they could all carry and deliver Kero/petrol diesel etc but only certain ones where able to access and load out of the refineries due to the vapour recovery systems and different loading techniques etc
Well down here my supplier, they use 1 tanker for red/kero and other tanker for white/petrol

As for the dye, up here it’s added to the big storage tanks as the fuel is being moved around inside the tank farm and only loaded once it’s being transomed and inspected as red.
Dye is added as it leaves the refinery
Duty is payed in the refinery by the storage tankful🤷‍♂️

That's what the driver told me last time I had red, kero and white
They have 2 identical delivery lorrys so had 2 drops here
They use artics from the refinery to their base
