Red Diesel?

I think they thought inflation was low, and fuel theft wasn't a problem, or they were pee'd at one of their parties...

Anyone know how much it'll add to a tonne of stone? (Genuine question).

Naff all to do with promoting greener fuels @HDAV , the evidence being that the rebate on biofuels is going as well. It's all about raising extra dosh (expected to be at least £4bn a year) for the Treasury.

The idea that most construction equipment could go electric is laughable. The smallest of Kubota 360's would need 10 grands worth of battery pack to have the same amount of energy on board as is contained in a 35 litre diesel tank. Oh, and how are you going to recharge it when you're working in the back end of beyond?

With a diesel generator of course 😆

They are never going to be able to police it. Are there going to be thousands of HMRC officers going around dipping digger fuel tanks? I doubt it. There are a lot of small to medium farming and contractor outfits running a few diggers as a sideline. On paper I'd imagine those diggers will do very little work after 1st April and what work they will do will be solely agricultural. Also their tractors will have become very inefficient 😉

Why not just crank up corporation tax a notch and make multinationals actually fudging pay some tax for a change?
you pay tax on profits, multinationals are just better at making sure they have very low actual profits and pay tax accordingly. Continuing this ridiculous notion they don't pay taxes is not helpful. Get the tax laws changed so they pay more will result in the smaller corporations pay more as well, as well as everyone else, ie you.

I think they're probably a little more clued in than you think.
You don't have to have thousands of officers, you just need a few to do it at random and strict penalties for being caught.
They'll find a way to get you even if its companies running legally, reporting cowboys undercutting them.
Doing things that you are suggesting in your post will just speed up the banning of red for Ag too.

It will be policed through the fuel suppliers. Just visit anyone who had bought Red and check what they are using it for.

It's been mentioned on other threads that suppliers are already asking questions when anyone orders red.

I don’t think they will sell it to those that cannot prove they are from agricultural or associated industry. I have already had emails form certas along those line.

Its going to be an easy job for excise and customs to say your accounting of usage of red and white diesel is wrong. They won't have to find the specific faults, just mass balance. One invoice or revenue stream which required white and you haven't bought any/enough for the job and it will be up to you to prove them wrong. They'll just use industry standard averages etc. for the equipment you have and then and the jobs you did. Glad I'm not contracting although I was thinking of it but now not worth the hassle.

According to the 2019 ONS survey the uk used 7.5m/t of rebate fuel in that year. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries where responsible for 1.6m/t of that. By far the biggest user is transport at 2.4m/t

But your right, construction on its own doesn’t use as much as ag but it isn’t isn’t far behind at just over 1m/t but construction isn’t the only sector losing rebate fuel! Just think how many fridge units are on the road (transport)

In case anyone is interested -

Surely most transport usage would be trains?

Is the golf course one the odd one out here or is it just me...
Couldn't be that the movers and shakers of this country don't want their subs to increase could it... 😆
That's exactly what I thought, why the hell should golf clubs and sports facilities be exempt.
These golf courses seem to get a lot of exemptions - is it because all politicians play golf...?

Hard to know just how draconian measures are going to be to go to the length of enforcement. I ran out of Diesel and in a pinch bought £110 out of a forecourt, the cashier sighed and wearily pulled out a clipboard and took my details, it was then he said if I bought under £100 no details would have been taken.
