Red Diesel?

What about hedge cutting . We do quite a bit of cutting for farm businesses which will be fine on red but also do there roadside hedges ect . Will this be ok on red ? . Also do some work for people that have maybe bought a farm steading and farm road but don’t have an agricultural business maybe just horses . Will this be a no no on red ?

Because construction uses far more red diesel than ag and making them using white diesel equates to millions or even billions in tax revenue I believe.
I'm sure the fishing industry uses the most red/rebated fuel and I'd be surprised if construction and ag weren't similar. Imo construction is the easiest target to take it from to begin with as cost can be simply passed onto customer, but it won't end there and is the beginning of the end of rebated fuel in the uk certainly under the current system (where you pay the lower price to begin with).

Don't know specifically on hedge cutting but i know there are a few random exemptions. Diesel ride on mowers for example (not a mini tractor with a mowing implement on the back but built with cutting deck as part of the machine) are ok on red still as are road rollers.

Can someone explain to me why the government have done away with red diesel use in construction, what is the intended aim of this?

“To accelerate the transition to a net-zero future” or some such phrase.

If fuel is more expensive, it will encourage development of other greener fuels.

Until of course (like proposed road pricing) they then get taxed too…..because the government wall don’t want to lose the tax revenue! 🙄

And then on the other hand biomass encourages the use of more red than probably any other single operation.
So stick us all on red and watch the tax roll in ?

The rest of us will just have to use less , no idea if that will be through direct drilling or planting trees on the marginal bits

According to the 2019 ONS survey the uk used 7.5m/t of rebate fuel in that year. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries where responsible for 1.6m/t of that. By far the biggest user is transport at 2.4m/t

But your right, construction on its own doesn’t use as much as ag but it isn’t isn’t far behind at just over 1m/t but construction isn’t the only sector losing rebate fuel! Just think how many fridge units are on the road (transport)

In case anyone is interested -

This is how I read the law, yet we need a piece of land levelled to put up a barn, and turning area, surely thats agricultural?
I think I may have opened up a can of worms here!
The simple answer to this is get him to come in march.
