I just use a 2 litre bottle cut the top and invert to get the funnel and I put dog or cat food into it, with water.
It will fill with flies.

Normally have a few round the garden here.
Work well, fill pretty quickly.
Haven't had any out this year, but need to now as the biting flies are getting really bad now, they're eating the dogs ears to the point of bleeding. Daily smearing of fly paste is only slowing them slightly.

We use them you want to get them out early in the season though the idea is to catch the females before they breed putting out now bit like shutting stable door.......
