If you have paid by debit card there is a "chargeback " scheme to get a refund. I spoke to trading standards during the week, and everybody that had asked, got money refunded. This applied to both the domestic and commercial scams.
Forget the idea you are getting panels fitted, just get your money back !

Hi Everyone

I have also been duped by Red Tower Energy Ltd, but the amount of money I lost is in the thousands.

I have joined this forum to see if anyone has made any headway with contacting Red Tower directly, also to let everyone know that I have all intentions to take legal action against against the company, anyone wishing to join me in said action is welcome as I will not let them take all this money and get away with it.

If you have been effected and would like to join the in the legal action or if you have any further news or contact information, then please can you email me either by sending a message on this forum to my inbox or by email to [email protected].

Regards

I was fortunate enough to get my 600 quid refunded by the credit card company I paid with. Certainly made me feel gullible to say the least and a lesson learned... If it appears to good to be true.. it usually is :-(

WOW
If I recall correctly our investing free solar panels came to a close around the tariff cut in April-July '15 and the more common PPA was implemented (power purchase agreement) which mean free solar but you pay a discounted rate on the solar energy that you use (last I heard was about 8p).
Hopefully, people will get their deposits back even though an EPC costs around £200 on commercial and £35 on domestic, prices here are extortionate.

Has anyone got any further information on Redtower and if the directors have been investigated for fraud?

After trying to visit the various addresses posted on here for Redtower I received a site visit for a "survey". The guy that turned up wasn't fit to survey my elbow. I was less than complimentary about both the "surveyor" and Redtower and its directors, he obviously relayed this to David Kinning who called me accusing me of threatening him (I didn't), but refused to come out to see me or give any details of completed installations.
I wrote an email to Redtower expressing my concerns and asking for assurances. As i didn't get any response I reported Redtower to
www.actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud, trading standards and contacted my bank.
I was fortunate to get my money back from my bank despite paying the deposit by debit card. Redtower had 45 days to appeal the decision but failed to do so.

Hello, I spotted this site and read it with interest.

At the moment, myself and other heating engineers are being offered the deal of a lifetime to fit heating systems for a firm called Sterling Brown Group.

I checked them with Google, to find out....... guess who?

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/SC510679

Operating from a lock- up shop in Gleska.

http://clydeoffices.co.uk/

They are offering a great deal for a company in existence for a few months.

Do you think I should sign up?

Isn’t the first time I’ve heard this scam.

Had a fella in my office last week proclaiming he wanted to push forward gshp installations. Spouting off he wanted people to have this and he wasn’t bothered about making profit. He was doing his work for the greater good. He’d made enough money to retire and frankly making money now wasn’t his concern. Alarm bells rang as soon as I saw his Hollywood million dollar smile and continued eye contact. He asked me to teach him about how construction took place. After this he then began his pitch. This went like so;

I will gather potential clients, complete the heat loss calculations. You go and assess the home and land. I then go and get quotations signed, collect 2 deposits, one on signing and the second when you arrive on site. You supply the equipment and I’ll pay you on completion.

I stopped him there and informed him on the correct process being the company that completes the install and produces the mcs certificate is the company that handles the financial transactions.

Well, needless to say the smiles stopped and conversation turned to him becoming defensive basically ruining his soon to be scamming plan. Every moment I talked to this scum bag I knew his motive being around these toss pot salesman for many years and knowing his angles.

You see, his motive was to front himself with us, collect multiple deposits and disappear, not unlike your situation.

Never pay any money unless

You have signed contract/quotation

You understand that the company taking your money is the company issuing the mcs certificate.
You have received calculations determining the equipment and heat requirements of the work to be done.
And lastly, you’ve contacted 3 references, and looked at work previously done.

Luckily it was only £200, I know people that have handed over £10,000 and don’t have anything from over in Yorkshire. People who have had installs and will not receive RHI due to poor installation or paperwork.

Financial lessons are the hardest to swallow. ASHP isn’t free and you will not get a company installing to claim the RHI over 7 years for no profit. They don’t exist. Only paying customers and people who take out finance.

Your hard earned cash just helped him fuel his car to go scam somebody else.
