Red Tractor Chair sells out all members

It's utterly disgraceful and makes a mockery of the standards we are having to adhear too. I'm with you all, I really am but, how do you not do RT, I can tell them to pee off with the beef and lamb it doesn't make a huge difference in the market provided the animals are well finished, But If I did the same with the dairy side my buyer wouldn't collect and i'd be left with an unsaleable product as all the dairies are handcuffed into assurance by the supermarkets.

That's the thing, what does your customer require. Dairy processors are really strict, supermarkets are the same and they always will be, RT just tries to get them all to use the same standard.
I don't know how much TFF represents the industry but everyone on here seems sick of it, time for it to go.
What will it be replaced with?

I agree that the chair should not remain in that position, it is a kick in the teeth for all of us that subscribe to the schemes in order to sell our produce. It is time for every farmer in the land to cancel all their assurance schemes and stand firm . End users still need tohave our produce and consumers still need to eat and drink. If you asked nine out of ten people in the local national supermarket chains what red tractor meant for them they would not know or care for that matter, as long as it is what they want at the right price. What happened to the election promise that farmers would have less red tape .

When we had our inspection we had email after email demanding more and more stuff and info . The final straw was when at the end I had to do a 'telephone ' question and answer session and one question was "how is you realationaship with your wife/partner?" After my explosion she explained " a bad relationship within a partnership can have a negative effect on livestock welfare " to which I flew off the handle telling her to "stick the RT "
We shortly after had an email thanking us for our co-operation and saying we had passed ......
As we now only sell cull cows on the meat trade and all cattle now go as store I think we will not be continuing with it and the actions of the Chair have finally made up my mind .

The TFF farm standard. @Clive can’t we start our own? To keep the costs down farm inspections should be done by two of your neighbouring farmers who are also members of the scheme, let’s face it, no one is more critical of your methods of farming than them. We all know who’s doing the job properly and who isn’t. We all know the standards required as we’ve all had to comply with them up to now. Who’s in?

How much more evidence do you people need that RT is run entirely for the benefit of the supermarkets

Before she was appointed ASF chair, Baroness Neville-Rolfe spent 15 years at Tesco where she was an executive director on the main board from 2006 to 2013.”

I am sure it is no coincidence that she spent a number of years being paid by Tesco!!

This.
Market share is the root of all evil.
You only have one chance in the foreseeable future. Dimblebys National Food Strategy. All of agriculture needs to work with the environmental and social justice movements to get a reversal in the concentration of market share onto the agenda.

Whole thing is a muddle with uninformed do gooders with no skin in the game sticking their oars in, topped off with brexit/ remoaner point scoring.
You really have to laugh though at how far RT credibility can be stretched and for how long our industry will keep on sucking it up. Sadly RT had turned into a protection racket. To all intents and purposes I can’t sell my grain without I pay up my sub. And the other problem is the scheme has become too wide in its scope. It now encompasses things that are nothing to do with grain quality per se, such as integrated pest management plans. That’s why stamping your feet and insisting imports match RT is a non starter. It would cripple international trade overnight and be impossible to administer.
The only thing anybody should be concerned about is the grain in the lorry or on the boat. You can test it for a zillion things now. It’s either safe on the day of presentation or it isn’t depending on test levels. All the guff back at the farm about filling in rat poison records and rubber strips on grain store doors is just needless shite. You can’t police it abroad in any meaningful way so you cant apply it to imports in any credible way.
Scrap RT, allow free trade, test at point of delivery as we have always done and as which is the only thing that really matters at a food safety level.

This was the time for Red Tractor to shine and finally be a brand that could have done some good for British Farming...........a mark of quality ahead of chlorinated chicken and hormone fed beef.

But the silly battleaxe fudged that up and voted to lower standards for food imports !!

The members that haven't left RT, should really start to look hard at why they are still members.
