So the NFU rolled over. The NFU should have made sure no member subscribed to any buyers “scheme” but stuck to minimum legal standards. But oh no, they just cannot bend over quick enough can they?
I suppose that was during the “customer is king” era.
What about producers? Presumably they have no right to make a living?

Ah bless. I am long out of the veg game. But back then in the 90s will be no different to today. The Co-op I worked for served Sainsbury, Safeway (remember!) Waitrose and several food service customers. And the word serve is appropriate. If JS / Safeway /Waitrose Bracknell said jump we would to an extent ask how high. Or trade would move to another packer. This thread and thousands like it before, and to follow will make no difference (or will they) to that fact of trade. And the end users have become even more concentrated since.

5p-10p liveweight at most.
My nearest market the culls basically always go to the same Bedfordshire abattoir if I took them there rather than 25 miles to market first. I realise this is an RT thread but I find it very distasteful that I should probably be listening to my mates and trucking them North to other live markets like Bentham; same cow here £1/kg live with FA, £1.45-1.60 per kg same cow not even FA up North. The whole "cartel" thing stinks and I've a feeling I will continue to get played because after a lifetime's service (15 - 18 year old cows) I don't want them shipped around, I'd like to keep them local and moved with care and dignity

The requirement for your assurance membership being on your trailer but not on lorry trailers is because lorry trailers have a TASCC number on them. This is a separate transport assurance scheme. Generally, to transport grain to buyers you need to be in TASCC. Being in RT removes this requirement, hence the need for the membership number on the trailer.

As for cats; do they have to be wormed for RT?
While lorries have their own scheme, you avoided the point about trailers hauling others grain not requiring that persons number, and why does having your number on your trailer improve food safety ? All grain requires a passport this passport requires the list of the last three loads, it shows who the transport belongs too, no passport identifies the trailer nor does the number on the side, tell me how having my number on the trailer improves food safety or traceability.

I worked for a South Lincs veg Co-op in mid 90's when Assurance was first introduced as a concept, and was involved as a technical manager in the initial roll out. Each of the major retailers was about to introduce their own scheme, and the coming together under a single Assurance scheme was a driving force for the NFU etc, to simplify trading terms. Long time ago now.
Thing was though it didn't stop them, Tesco's had their own scheme and M&S still do as far as I know.

There is nothing about cats in RT standards that I can see, having double checked. So if an inspector really has raised a NC about cat worming, what reference have they given?

I also Googled why dogs need worming on farms. Lots of good stuff if you can be bothered to read it.
So do dogs on organic farms need worming ?

Ive maybe read your post wrong. My nearest is Carlisle or Hexham.Cull cows non FA at Carlisle are maybe -5p/kg.Really good ones,it will make no difference. They are always my least favorite class of stock to sell, unless its a really bad tempered Limousin x.

I've literally been told - when an inspector has come to some pointless inane question in the record book that I'd left blank - "oh just put something down, as long as there's a date or something in that box that'll be fine" :ROFLMAO: :banghead:

we all know this is how it really works and as a result has no credibility

not inspectors fault, they are just trying to help and get done asap - they don’t get a lot of money per visit as i understand it

That’s precisely the rub. I’d say your cull cows are probably some of the best there are as far as welfare and husbandry standards go. So why should you have to pay RT for access to markets, or be excluded from certain markets by default if you don’t pay the sub. It stinks in my view.
On the subject of Barrens, I have to have beef assurance to get the best price for my farm assured dairy cull cows yet I can never find out what is required extra over and above dairy assurance for beef other than the payment of a fee.
I strongly suspect it costs me in the region of £180 a year to have a tick put in a box to say I’m beef assured also.

Yes we pay to be members of This scheme so we should get a vote on who’s in charge.

as an aside I haven’t had a inspection for almost 2 years now for beef or cereals.

im refusing point blank to do online audits and as the cereal inspector was a first class twot I refused to let him come on the farm during harvest.
not heard a dicky bird from them since although they took my money so assume im still ok To sell farm assured grain.

I had my Farm Assurance inspection on the 28th of July and for a bit of fun I never really bothered to fully complete any of my 4 non compliances which were no padlock on the medicines cabinet, no needle course applied for, proof of vet visit in the last 12months and the annual inventory of how many rams i have. They keep sending me out threatening letters I send them one piece now and again. Never paid the sub cancelled me straight away. No big deal rang them up paid it, happy enough to renew it when they have my money.........and I still haven't sent them evidence for the needle course yet.

Needle course?

what sort of bulls**t have they dreamt up this time😡

edit I didn’t say bulls**t!

anyway it won’t matter cos as said they have my money and physical inspections will soon grind to a halt again once corona restrictions start getting tighter!

Been on the dairy one for a while. They'd hinted it's coming for beef. pre-Covid it's been a PR exercise for some vet practices for a pub pee up and a little practice with a syringe and an orange

Ker-ching .................
Do you fail if you miss the orange with the pointy thing😂😂😂
