I hope you have mentioned the 12 bore in a light hearted way but in a more serious note, we are involved in a profession with one of the highest suicide rates, approx 50 a year.
Now bearing in mind the feelings many have towards RT I suspect RT will be a factor in some taking their own lives, that’s what happens when the pressure keeps getting piled on, wonder how the RT representatives feel about that.
YES, it was in a light hearted way, but they do put pressure on, Its hard being in an unappreciated industry though, You would think the pandemic would make people appreciate local food but i doubt it somewhat, Shame

It took less than 10 minutes to complete the survey.
I did not hold back even though some tick boxes, that you have to complete to move through the document, do give THEM a positive answer.
Everyone that is able get online and complete as it might get it through to them that it cannot act as a protection racket with additional hoops of fire to jump through.

If these proposals plus those of the defra movement consultation go through then suicide rates will only go one way I'm afraid.....

I’ve just read in the farmers weekly that they want to be bvd free by 2023, so I suppose we’ll have to pay to be tested to be assured.

I don’t disagree, and there will be a negative effect on the mental health of many more.
Not really what I want but I’m glad I’m in a position to be able to walk away from it all if it gets too much.
As a fifty something, small scale dairy farmer (65 cows) ever increasing rubbish from farm assurance, is making me consider how long I stick with keeping milking. What are we down to now, in terms ofnumber of dairy farmers compared to when I was young. This the last dairy farm in this parish, when I was at school there would be at least 8.

I’m sure ever increasing bearecracy, government as well as RT is a major factor in driving small farmers out and I don’t see it slowing down.
But not to worry, the milk will still be produced by producers expanding by the 100’s and hauling feed and sh!t around the countryside.
Not sure how that fits in with things like the environment and carbon footprint, using tractors and diesel to do what the cows legs will do on smaller farms, along with public perception of factory farming but hey ho, that’s progress.

RT well where do i start ??we as farmers pay for it .What For ,A large majority of the public either buy on price ,or the nearest/ cheapest on the shelves, we have been members of various RT groups for many years,(so long i cannot remember how long) Every years the BAR gets higher, but what for??no financial reward they just think up new regulations and look for them !! for example take the policy of lambing mortality, If i thought about it i would be reaching for Valium or the 12 bore!!now we are going to have to be trained to inject animals !! our vet even thinks its daft and has no courses planned due to covid 19, i am seriously thinking of telling them to do one! as we all know when there is a shortage of sheep / lambs corn/ beef the farm assurance goes out of the window ,IT is a shame Farmers Don't stick Together and raise TWO FINGERS TO THIS DREADFUL SCHEME
Agree 100 %
If they had stuck to basic requirements I could of just about tolerated it.When will this extra form filling, box ticking stop. There are amendments every year and its got to STOP.They hide behind the shroud that this is what the public want and it gives them the confidence to buy.I often ask local people about RT and bearing in mind this is rural herefordshire you would be surprised to hear the majority pay no attention to it with most having seen the logo on the packaging yet don't understand what it means. So,in essence, we don't need it .
I hope change will come.

It's obvious that RT want to arrange things so that their standards, which currently mean fudge all in the eyes of the law or in the eyes of consumers (or retailers, for that matter), begin to be enshrined in such a way that they become industry guidelines and so they can't be readily ignored as they can today.

They will, in effect, remain in situ because legislation will rely on them and producers won't be able to sell anything without being RT assured.

The industry should rapidly find a critical mass and create two industry led assurance schemes at least, one for dairy and one for combinable crops.

Do you or anyone else have a downloaded copy of the proposed standards for cereals that we had back in the spring by any chance? I thought I had them somewhere on my computer and probably still do but can't find it at present and it's disappeared off the website.
I've got beef. I've got dairy.

Unbelievable, but I haven't got cereals

Sorry, that’s all I had. I did a screenshot on my phone of them just for that post.
