Because RT see Governemnt and Defra as one of their “stakeholders” 😡 That means that they will help to facilitate their needs in the scheme. That is why they are becoming the Policeman for governemnt regulation. Conveniently for the Government a Policeman we pay for. At a meeting i attended that Mosley spoke at the reason for increased measures on fertiliser storage was included SPECIFICALLY at the request of the anti terrorist squad.
That clearly demonstrates that RT is the method to control us, has become a licence to farm and most conveniently is enforcement that we have to pick up the total cost for.
These proposals must be robustly rejected. Our representatives organisations will not back us as they are part of RT.
I sat in a Regional NFU Crops meeting where the feeling against these changes was VERY strong, it really concerns me that the response that the NFU make as a whole to this consultation will not truly reflect the views of those members. The RT representatives present alluded to the fact that they will take more note of the consultation submissions from representative bodies than from individuals. That means that a huge number of NFU members who have strong views on this will potentially be disaffected by the NFU response.

You are spot on.

But it is worse than that.

For things to become legislation, they would be scrutinised, particularly by the House of Lords.
Most of the new proposals would be rejected on the grounds of no supporting facts or evidence of need or benefit and would be noted to be outside the remit of an 'assurance scheme'.
Red tractor already has a protection racket covering crops and dairy, with clear aims to do the same with all sectors. Their rules are effectively legislation with NO sense of reason or right of appeal. UK agriculture should really be very troubled by this

The local firebrigade visited us to go through all the procedures of fertiliser, especially Nitrogen, storage, and said they were the body to oversee it.So do we need RT as well ? Lots of what RT are proposing will just be duplication as a lot is already covered by other Agricultural bodies or is written in law.
I think its time for all of us to stand together and reject these proposals or better still leave en masse.I for one am willing to even if it will, initially, hit the bottom line.If not how much more regulation, during the next few years, will they have introduced ?
Back to Rt’s glossy pamphlet sitting on the kitchen table, they claim.......and it’s not a new claim , they’ve made it before, that as a result of being a member of RT you will get less inspections from other official bodies.
Has anyone ever put this claim under scrutiny, how does it work?

Are these official bodies aware of this? I’ve had inspections from the likes of animal health and the EA in recent years, should I have told them to go away as I’m RT assured?

How would/could it work, how much if any information are RT allowed to divulge to third parties under GDPR rules?

Is it just a lie that they peddle?

Think its more about tying cows up in byres by the neck with a chain. That will be us out of red tractor if it is. Have 70 spring calvers all tied up. In my eyes best way to keep them, keeps them quiet, cheap to keep and easy to manage the calves once there calved. Be a shame as were getting on well selling all lambs deadweight.
Guessed that was what it was aimed at, just wondered if the ewe adopter would get caught up in it?

Methinks it could be a poetic licence to get you signed up.
I'm a member of RT and have had in recent years
-A check on sheep numbers and their tags
-Trading standards to check movement licences
-Local council checking animal feeds and hygiene.
-Firebrigade checking on site fertiliser storage.

yes combinable crops are the focus (for now) as its the most indefensible part of RT, we have to tackle this a bit at a time realistically, it's David vs Goliath here as it is !

Even as a mixed farm you are paying for it despite wrapping it up all as one thing / one inspection
Big battles can be won in the end.
Look at ukip, everyone said crazy lot and never do anything. We now out of the eu...
So point is anything can be done if enough ppl pit their minds to it.

and we pay to get inspected! Mental! With no assurance scheme the Gov would have to do it.

But I’ve got a glossy pamphlet from RT sitting on the kitchen table claiming the RT brand is highly recognised by consumers.
I think the brand is recognised and valuable, but I expect the consumer would be horrified by some of the hell holes that are passed because they have passable paperwork.

I’m sure the brand will be even more valuable in the future of different imports come in, but it needs a total reshape of standards.

So over 90% of TFF members are disagreeing with the extra rules so far on this poll ....................... what's the betting RT come up with a statement at the end of this consultation to say their farmer members are all for the changes !?!

Those farmers who sit on the RT committees are always keen for more changes!

I hate to have to tell you but only a few dozen will have commented on here albeit with the vast majority being overwhelmingly against however the number who have commented are a very tiny proportion of the country’s farmers.

No one seems to have stuck their head above the parapet to defend RT, I don’t blame any farmer for not doing so as I don’t think the response would be pleasant. However with the anonymity the forum gives representatives of NFU/RT really ought to be defending their actions/beliefs

Lets put that another way, the farmers that are computer literate might be bothered to comment on the RT proposals.....if they can be bothered to go through the hundreds of pages on line. A big percentage of those farmers will also browse TFF.

The farmers who don't do computers, or no more than the odd email, will certainly not do the RT survey. So I can't see the TFF figures will be too far out.................... unless the RT gravy train employees and employers get everyone in their family to distort the figures.

I’m sure the feelings about RT are held by a large majority of farmers but as you say , not all are computer literate and not everyone who is will respond to the consultation.
I suspect RT will go along with the theory that they’ve had a relatively low percentage of total membership critical and will take the view that the rest must be in favour

Trouble is if a farmer spends time reading the consulation and replying they probably won’t listen anyway.

So farmers won’t bother responding as it becomes a total waste of their time.

Heads they win, tails you lose.

It’s worse than that they will then take the view of the representative bodies as being those of farmers ..... and I’m not sure that will give a fair representation.

RT well where do i start ??we as farmers pay for it .What For ,A large majority of the public either buy on price ,or the nearest/ cheapest on the shelves, we have been members of various RT groups for many years,(so long i cannot remember how long) Every years the BAR gets higher, but what for??no financial reward they just think up new regulations and look for them !! for example take the policy of lambing mortality, If i thought about it i would be reaching for Valium or the 12 bore!!now we are going to have to be trained to inject animals !! our vet even thinks its daft and has no courses planned due to covid 19, i am seriously thinking of telling them to do one! as we all know when there is a shortage of sheep / lambs corn/ beef the farm assurance goes out of the window ,IT is a shame Farmers Don't stick Together and raise TWO FINGERS TO THIS DREADFUL SCHEME

I hope you have mentioned the 12 bore in a light hearted way but in a more serious note, we are involved in a profession with one of the highest suicide rates, approx 50 a year.
Now bearing in mind the feelings many have towards RT I suspect RT will be a factor in some taking their own lives, that’s what happens when the pressure keeps getting piled on, wonder how the RT representatives feel about that.
