Red Tractor Contractor Membership

I may of asked this before but we are now being pushed to do this. Wonder if anyone else has had similar experience. We currently have our own RT membership. British Sugar have now kicked up and say a contract farm needs it's own RT number. NSF say we have to get a contractor membership, and the contract farm needs an owner membership. What they aren't very clear about is our own existing membership and the fees involved. It sort of looks like I as the contractor needs to pay the area fee for the contract farm and the contract farm landowner pays just a small owner fee. Normally bills would go to a separate joint account run by the landowner in this arrangement which makes me think what NSF is proposing is slightly wrong. I'm not sure why they would think it's in my interest to pay the larger fees for being the contractor.

Tell RT to get f*cked sideways. Money making scam using the golden glow of "accredited recognition" to earn more fees from us!

As long as the farmer has RT to sell assured produce I'd keep them at arms length for as long as possible.
In this instance it’s actually British farming’s other useless entity causing the hassle.....British Sugar. Up until now the RT assessor was sort of happy with the setup.

I’ve done it or more truthfully my wife spent hours trying to sort it out. It’s a money making scam whilst trying to justify their existence, of course all supported by our wonderful NFU.

So did you end up keeping your original membership, then becoming a contractor member for your other farms? I just don’t understand why the contract farm can’t get its own number and be linked with my current membership and why I’m filling in more forms?!

We are also trying to sort this at the moment. We are contractors a the farm next door and had been doing it under the one number. New man comes out and strikes us off for no risk assessment for pest control. Then strikes are neighbor off and doesn’t tell us or him. Didn’t find out till lorry of wheat went to the mill. Two farms are farmed as one. Whole system is a joke but what can you do!!!!

Quite right too, red tractor assured contractors, red tractor assured hauliers, red tractor assured drivers and operators. Red tractor assure game keepers. And don't forget your dog: gotta be assured, too.
