Red Tractor Inspection Any Heads-Up info

well my Red Tractor inspection with my new assessor is booked in....
I’ve been through the booklet and online checklist with a fine tooth comb again and again and again.

I’m confident I have every form, booklet, manual, policy and record that I need in duplicate just in case I can’t find one in my panic

Our farm is ship shape, the spray and fertilizer store is ship shape too. The staff are trained up to the hilt with certificates coming out of every orifice

Question for you loverly TFFers :- What obscure nugget of info were you asked for in your inspection that you weren’t aware of/never heard of /didn’t have.

TIA
If you haven't been on a course to learn how to administer animal medicines you will have to book in for one ASAP. As there is always plenty of spare time and cash in livestock farming (?????!) the good news is that it will only take a day and cost you £75!

With my last two assessors I'd heartily agree with your sentiment. They understood your limitations when running a busy mixed farm and had realistic interpretations of some of the more ridiculous rules.

My current (I assume we will get the same berk this year..) assessor definitely seems to take great delight in picking us up on every minute detail and making the whole process feel more like a day in court.
We had one like that, luckily he’s retired. Took 2 seconds in the spray store, 1 second in each grainstore and 2 hours reading records etc trying to find something wrong. The chap we have now is actually a human being.

I got the Checklist directly off the Red Tractor website.... been through it all documents in the file.

I then spoke to someone at NSF who sent me a checklist .... and it’s reasonably similar as the Red Tractor one .... except there are 12 extra checklists on the NSF one. Categories AG and NM

Where did they come from ???

I had my Red Tractor inspection Crops recently and the new lady assessor was very very thorough but fair and friendly
Which was a nice surprise after the northern rumour mill of recent months.
If anyone wants any advice
I’d say.... make sure ALL your paperwork is in order and check every requirement in the Standards booklet.
In my case after looking in the sheds, spray and fert store and general farmyard Every bit of paper was checked !!! And some cross referenced to make sure we weren’t cheating. !!!!!

Luckily I’m super geeky and particularly pedantic so it all does tally but I can really see how some people haven’t got their records up to speed

I did get some non conformances but they were just a matter of correcting the paperwork, or collating it better and sending it in to prove I have done it. so I’m okay with that. The visit was fair but firm.

Don’t be complacent.... the standards have really tightened up and you need to read the booklet, read the checklists online, get the 68 page templates booklet and fill it all in Correctly

I do very little in the way of pre to nspection prep apart from making sure I know where all the made up paperwork is stored in the office and having a look round the yard and buildings to make sure nothing is on view that shouldn’t be

The biggest waste of time is them asking for things like PA1 and 2 numbers etc.

The computer system at there end must be crap as I reckon I’ve given them my numbers (which haven’t changed) every year since the scheme begun!

That almost reads like RT propaganda, despite all your preparations and being super geeky and particularly pendantic they still found fault and you believe they are fair and reasonable.

From where I’m standing, either you ain’t as good as you’re telling us or they were nit picking.

Not only their computer system. We had to remedy a failure by submitting a written veterinary health plan within 28 days. Sent a photocopy of the two pages by post only to get a demand for page 2 by return because they hadn't realised that page 2 was printed on the back of page 1. In future I would advise writing PTO in capital letters on any document you send that is double sided!

When I was asked for that last year, I rather flippantly said my cats do that for me .I was told that as long as I record the fact my cats are on rodent patrol I was ok .
I explained that we have self propelled rodent control devices deployed, even the inspector chuckled at that one!
