I am currently waiting for a banner for Beef Week to put at the end of the Farm. My G secretary is looking in to it.

Your G secretary may like some of the TFF flyers for beef week. £50 for 1000, inc postage.

They have been sending beef here for decades !

Look on the bright side...... no deal Brexit will hinder the Irish beef trade to Great Britain

No it won't - under WTO rules you are not allowed to discriminate between countries. If the UK sets a zero tariff for beef it applies to all countries, Brazil, the ROI and everyone else.

The fact that the tariff would allow beef from around the globe into this country might just stop it happening at all, or atleast take along time to sort out so home grown beef might just take off. Only trouble is the country will be a -wash with sheep meat which will pull all red meat prices back. If the supermarkets had there way they would screw us to the floor making farming unprofitable and then they would force the government to let them import cheap foreign shite

Point number 1 on the leaflet relates directly to your comment on the pasture.
I can't be arsed to comment on the 'crappy old cows' observation.
Fair enough but it doesnt paint a true picture of uk beef farming. We cannot survive , nor do we want to by pocketing handouts, keeping a few rare breeds grazing brambles . Modern Uk beef farming is something to be proud of and that picture and those cows do not represent it imo

Not the greatest advert for beef farming printing posters of some crappy old cows grazing a rough looking field/moor
Remember this for the General public!
Better some crappy cows :rolleyes:on some rough moorland, looks a lot more natural than some Schwarzenegger style cows on beautifully manicured field's! It's not for a farmers benifit!
The public are whom we need onside. (y)

The cattle in that picture belong to an organisation that receives no BPS. Do you ?
The beef is sold before it is born. Is yours ?

So we are going to lie to the general public and/or be ashamed of our beef industry and hide behind fake news. There is nothing wrong with the way beef cattle are bred and farmed in this country and no reason to be ashamed of it. People are trying to ruin us and when they do beef from foreign countries will be shipped and flown in regardless of how its been raised.

I agree, but will still have to have the public onside, they don't live in South America so it's a case of our of site out of mind!
But they do see what's in the countryside here, and we are going to have to farm in a way they want if they are to buy our goods!
What we think is good is not necessarily what Joe public thinks is good!
Hope that makes sense!.

the information there is great

It's a bit too much on one graphic though

Do you think it would be a good idea to get our TFF designer to turn those excellent points into a series of 10 individual info graphics that we could all use on social media ? I'm happy to cover the cost

I would trust the eye of a graphic designer over a farmer TBH - they know what works ! its their job. Could be a series of different pics or maybe just simple graphics and a theme running through the x10 that links them

As long as everyone promises to bombard social media with them so the effort and cost is not wasted I will have a chat with our designer on Monday

Absolutely, thank you. We knew from the outset that this leaflet version would be too much info for social media, it's more for people to take home from farm open days etc and digest at home. A series of 10 bite sized social media friendly versions would be great.

As long as the graphic designer knows the difference between beef and dairy cows. I cannot remember which tv advert it was but they had straw bales placed out in a grass field ffs

I think Clive was offering the services of a professional graphic designer working on material supplied

Now's your chance to use your diplomatic skills in a more applied way by offering up some photos and maybe get some of them included alongside Wye's lovely British White cows :)

I get what your saying but i think joe public should trust us as the experts. I was harsh on the poster and cows , beef farming should include all types of breeds and methods

You're right, in some ways letting all the sh*te in allows the UK producers to differentiate their product. You suddenly have 'foreign beef', which may contain hormones etc, and you have (dare I say it) Red Tractor beef that definitely and conclusively doesn't. So suddenly UK beef has a USP. Buy Red Tractor beef - guaranteed hormone free! The fact that (say) Irish beef would be hormone free too would be lost on the public, in their head they'd have 'foreign beef' vs 'UK (or RT) beef'.

Its a bit like how they market organic produce vs conventional - you need a bogey man to differentiate your product...........

You were harsh

If you're keeping cattle on less than challenged grazing land, you could be asked why you're farming beef on that ground.

If you're farming cattle that cannot naturally calve their own calves or finish on cereal heavy diet you could get challenged

Most folks farming try to do the best they can given their farm's capabilities in terms of topography, soil type, precipitation, access to markets.

One of THE greatest assets we have in the UK is a fantastic and diverse range of farming conditions and breeds / regional types that have evolved to harness these to best advantage

Your competitor is not another British cattle farmer and we should celebrate the dedication and stockmanship of all livestock farmers in the UK
