It has played into their hands and saved them the cost of creating the schemes the NFU feared the retailers would create for themselves….by doing the job for them!

Not really. Lots of retailers still implement their own schemes, certainly for livestock, based on RT plus a bit, if only to differentiate their products from each other.

Nothing at all wrong with that of course, and up to each producer whether they find the hoops worthwhile to jump through. Stop RT and let the retailers just do all of it, if they really want & value it, which I suspect they don’t.

When the beet factory shuts the firing up costs to get going again are horrendous. While the mills don't have the same problem, it would cost them a fortune.
Non compliance day would be good opportunity to send in non RT milling wheat at a premium.
The problem with that would be that the central stores and big merchants would fill the gaps.

Seems they allow associate membership too for all suppliers…..including sack manufacturers. No mention of allowing farmers though! 😆

Just looked at that page and it's covered in gravy.

Yep. Everyone welcome but the farmer….

“Associate Membership is available to businesses which supply the flour milling industry, such as grain merchants, agrochemical manufacturers, plant breeders, machinery manufacturers, laboratory instrument makers, sack manufacturers, software engineers, logistics businesses etc.”

Well what have farmers got to do with producing milling wheat?

Also from the UK flour millers website:

Ongoing industry monitoring

UK flour millers submit wheat samples for residue analysis as part of the independent monitoring project run by the AHDB. This programme has consistently shown that pesticide residues in UK milling wheat are extremely low and consistently below the MRLs.

No mention made of samples of imports though.....

Sounds safe to me.

From that info, obvs no need for UK GK grain to do lab tests.

Keep calm amd carry on.

Mindst you, I got a little bit more vociferous on the FW podcast recording (published tomorrow). Not sure they'll replay those bits.

Hugh Broom is very good. I could hear myself saying "erm" a lot between sentences, but did what I could.

FW podcast has just popped up on my phone. According to the presenters, apparently the 'vast majority' of UK cereal growers are perfectly happy with Red Tractor...

Tom Bradshaw couldn't sound more negative if he tried, if I didn't know otherwise I'd of assumed he was representing the AIC. It will be slow and there's no market there, is how he presented it.

Already written to mine, just got a waffle reply about how assurance was necessary for consumer safety

Farm assurance is not a requirement of consumer safety - that's handled by the law.

However, manipulating the price of commodities by cartels is illegal.

Would be best perhaps to state you cannot believe the response you've got in response to potentially criminal activity, mentioning the CMA - don't go on about assurance. It's the manipulation of price and the cost to agriculture.
