I did my crop assessment last week via my phone ,was quite straightforward. I filled in the self assessment form as sprayer is not tested due to Covid 19.They are happy with that but if I dont contact them within a week of lockdown being lifted (no definition of that) I will be suspended bit heavy handed I thought

I spoke to one of my grain buyers last week about coming out of RT. His feedback was that in recent weeks he's had several people coming up with the same question and that there's around a fiver a ton in it but when they are short they will take anything. Nothing we didn't know already, but could there be momentum gathering for at last chucking in this unnecessary and expensive hassle especially so you if one is running less than say 400 acres.

I failed this winter, because I came clean and showed the inspector a temp shed full of grain (could easily have not shown her, but I'm very honest person [emoji6]), and it was October. The building should have been emptied, but because of an obstruction on our only access road, only cars could get to the farm.
She took one look and said I'd have to be suspended. To which I replied, to empty the temp store I've got to move grain off the farm, which I can't if I'm suspended. After much discussion I was given a months grace.

Are the assessments as in depth on the paperwork side at the moment or is it a pot luck snapshot of what they ask for?

My virtual assessment asked all the usual questions and he saw all the usual paperwork.

This strikes me as a bit wrong of RT, I too had to do a remote inspection and the sprayer form, when I said I would rather wait for lock down to be lifted and have a farm visit soon after, the reply was they didn't have enough RT testers to do all the outstanding audits in a timely order so would be suspending people not tested in lock down on the lifting of lockdown, but here they are wanting us to find enough sprayer testers. ( ps , my sprayer form has no completion date for test on it though ).

Subs paid here and as far as I’m concerned there was plenty time to do our inspection before all this covid stuff kicked off. Used to do us in Dec/Jan regular as clockwork so not my fault it’s overdue! Anyone threatening me with suspension will be told this.

Talking of suspension they tried to suspend me once cos sprayer was out of test. Snow was on the ground at the time. So I rung them up and said no problem I will get sprayer tested as long as RT paid for the resultant frost damage. They backed down??

Oh I will no fan of them. Think the whole thing has got out of hand. It started as a good idea but has turned into a box ticking exercise, has turned us all into liars and achieves nothing.

The whole thing wants ripping up RT needs to be done away with and start a fresh with something that looks at what we do in an objective and sensible way and uses our subscription money to promote British farming as the best in the world.

RT achieves non of that. Like I’ve said before currently no inspections (or only in very limited form) but money still leaving all our accounts so what they spending it on?

Thought there was a lot of verbal flatulence in here a few weeks back to the effect that nobody was going to submit to remote inspections, and that they could Foxtrot right Oscar?
If some have acquiesced, the rest of us will now have to.

Remote assessment not Happening! They should have got here a bit sooner.
