Red tractor

Is the thread aware as of next April (if the market in fertilisers has stabilised)
Red tractor in conjunction with defra will have a rule stating
Unprotected urea in solid forum will only be allowed between Jan 15th and March 31st
The rest of the growing year protected urea or inhibited urea will need to be used whether in solid or liquid forum

I think this is a good thing if the product is available. Having it being a red tractor standard is more debatable.

I don't think its a good thing at all. Its ridiculous.

So if it is DEFRA's regulation I think its daft and unpoliceable and will lead to possibly less N use efficiency but at least that is their regulation to own.

But its none of Red Tractor's business.

If they become DEFRA's policeman on this then the NFU (who own Red Tractor) demonstrate that even more they are not to be trusted by farmers in the future and need stopping. They will have even more control over the marketplace and have the right to control even further who gets to trade in it only if they pay to a non accountable organisation.

I’m not sure red tractor will be policing the whole industry just those within its remit.

a industry group including Nfu aic cla and red tractor suggesting the solution in response to defra threatening to ban all type of solid urea. I have no knowledge about who they suggested policed the policy.

And they look like they’ll be policing the anti pollution regulations in Wales.
It really is a sh!t show.

I think legal action against NFU and RT by their own farmers is looking inevitable

@crazy_bull is there a possibility that demand could drop to a point that no straight urea gets imported?

doubtful, price wise it’s the best value N, with CF shutting one plant we are Very short of N as a nation, so need to import something.

straight urea will be imported and then treated at the port with inhibitors as required before being sent out.

A simple case of farmers and the environment being shafted for the sake of business and politics.

The government want to look green.
CF wanted urea banned to make more for their AN.
NFU claim a win by getting a 'concession'.
RT find another means to make membership compulsory.

It's a load of steaming Bullshitte.

Appropriate spreading depends on weather not dates.
The environmental impact of urea is in most cases less than AN when used appropriately.
Inhibited urea contains chemicals such as formaldehyde which is not good for soils.

The Irish are very keen on it. They recon it will allow them to achieve of a 1/3 of there climate change goals in one hit.

Theoretically you can do anything with the right calculator.

Whats better, chucking on protected urea on April 1st and having 4 weeks of drought or chucking on normal urea on April 1st 3 hours before it rains?

But the point is it is the governments business not Red Tractor to try and get stuck into
