Reelers and Dribblebars

Have to go down the umbilical dribblebar route now and need a new reel/dribblebar setup. Been using umbilical for our own use for over 10yrs now.

Been looking over the past year or so at Slurrykat and Slurryquip. Never got round to looking at Mastek. What I gathered so far from speaking at previous events is Slurryquip prefer you to go down the front reeler route. They are not keen on the rear reeler with their 12m dribblebar hence why I think they just don’t offer a back reeler option with a smaller dribblebar width.

Slurrykat do offer smaller dribblebar widths with back reelers but their kit isn’t cheap especially when you have to pay nearly £1000 to get it galvanised from what I heard a number of months ago. Also I always see secondhand Slurrykat dribblebar kits Forsale, some only a season old for some reason. Issues?

My problem is working on hilly ground with the 12m Slurryquip for example getting to the bottom of a hilly field and trying to turn without getting into a nightmare situation.

Also, if I choose a front reeler option and a smaller width dribblebar, I then have to get front linkage fitted to one of my NH tractors which I haven’t priced and that cost has to be factored in. Still also worried about the weight having a heavy front reel with pipe on the front of the tractor. Are dribblebars heavy to counter the weight at the front?

Not sure what to do and time is ticking. Haven’t even investigated the difference in macerators. 🤔

What are your opinions? Hilly ground plays a part in my purchase.

A front reeler is very handy to have storz couplings make the job a pleasure you can reel pipes up from any way as there’s no male and female couplings so you can pull a pipe across a field backwards to save running on wet ground ect they also don’t cut your pipes on random wrap reelers, having no front linkage makes it hard but I’d have a 600m reeler on the front then a backpack 800m depending how much pipe you need?

Talk too mastek they’ll sort you out.. personally I think you’d be best go for there 12m dribble bar as the new ones the wings are tapered so they are 2m ish off the floor at the furthest point which is way better for hilly ground as you don’t wack the Arms off the floor...

Your gonna need front linkage though because any backpack reeler you buy too carry any amount of pipe you won’t be able too steer ... ours holds 1600m and any more than 800m on it and nothing on the front you just pull a wheelie ...

Slurry kat kit is big money and made of chocolate hence why it’s always for sale second hand @Speedstar loves telling story’s about his old slurry kat kit [emoji23]

Is your back reeler open or have you any divisions? I fancy a change from my Spreadwise reeler

Current backreeler is open but one of those that can’t be hooked off. Thought we might use it and maybe make brackets to hook it onto the telehandler as we are currently dumping pipe into a shed when not needed and when needed going back home for it.

Land is all in one block so not a big issue and we often leave the 5” out along the lane to save hassle as it’s not easy to roll up on our current reeler.

We use around 1400m 400m 5” and the rest 4”. Thinking about buying another 400m of 5” as we notice the benefits when pumping. Pain when blowing out though.

Will have to price front linkage.

I’m toying with the idea of 5” myself currently got 1500m of 4” my Spreadwise reeler will hold 1200m but you’ve got to get it perfectly tight my front reeler is best can get 800m on there easy enough
