Rees-Mogg and the 91000 civil servants

Always a superb a show, never fails to make me laugh. But I can think of at least half a dozen local civil servants around here for whom the following would be an impossible question to answer:

And I am certain this is reflected nationally, civil servants are remarkably unproductive - in terms of man hours to do / achieve anything - and extremely expensive to maintain. Nobody can argue that they are all unnecessary, but a hell of lot of them are, and I resent subsidising them:

My company rented an office from the Ministry, I shared an office 2 or 3 other civil servants. I would be sent out to do a job at 8.30 and at 10am 4 Ministry engineers would arrive at another site half a mile away to do a similar job. I was my own gopher and working alone was required to phone in every hour on the hour. At noon the other lot went off to the pub for a couple of hours and called it a day by 4pm. What took me one day took them two or three days. I admired their lifestyle, but there was a no poaching agreement between companies so could not just transfer. They envied me as apparently as their boss drove them too hard !
Someone left a helicopter towing dolly in front of where I needed to work. I rang my boss and was told don't touch it, we're not insured, a ministry man would be out shortly. An hour later a Land Rover appeared driven at a speed akin to a game drive on the Serengeti. I hitched up the dolly for him, but the Land Rover couldn't shift it though it was probably less than a couple of tons. I asked if was in low range to which he replied, "yes, first gear". I got in beside him and told him to move the stubby lever and we moved the dolly. He had used the Land Rover to take his Ministry test, but had not been allowed to use the "stubby lever".
In real life terms 91,000 civil servants probably equates to 20, 000 in the private sector.

I have to deal with various parts of the MoD on occasion. I'm of the firm belief that if you shot, sorry, fired, the incompetent ones you'd halve the headcount and make the organisation more effective. Why? Fewer incompetent, sloping-shouldered, feckless, chair-polishing, oxygen thieves holding back those who are capable of doing the job.

Surely not if they join the "single market" :)
Scottish/Welch/English/N.Irish depts.of defence with their different weaponry and philosophy.
Different health services with different disease control methods. The list goes on and all admin duplicated instead of the efficiency of commonality.
Nah! Leave things as they are in our (UK) union

Not a lover of beaurocracy but I fail to see how getting rid of lots of civil servants will save money in the short term.

Unless they are on fixed term contracts (which I very much doubt) Redundancy or early retirement payments will have to be paid. Then there will have to be a recruitment drive as the Country is short of Driving Examiners, DVLA staff, Passport Office staff etc.

Getting them off the public purse has two benefits:

1. Reduces the total pension liability of the civil service.

2. They will be able to find work in the private sector which is desperately short of bodies in virtually every industry.

How's reducing a future pension liability going to help the economy this year?

Situations Wanted :Recently redundant civil servant (London based) seeks employment as Vegetable picker, meat packing plant worker, or HGV driver. Would prefer home based. No experience.
