Refuse to pay your TV licence fee - UK Agriculture Fight back

Now the buggers have started knocking on the door. I had to go to the consultant about a new hip this morning, and when I got back, I found that an officer had been round to see why I hadn't contributed. The rusty stub of my TV aerial has been pointing forlornly skyward since it fell down in a storm about 5 years ago I looked at the no-TV declaration mentioned above, but they want to come round and check you are not lying, then the fine for non-compliance is even greater, up to £1000.

You can legally not pay the BBC Tax.

If you don't watch Live TV as it's broadcast.

I watch most of my entertainment on the internet which isn't LIVE - ie downloaded content like Youtube or Amazon, which also qualifies as not having to pay the BBC TV tax.

You'll get harrassed by a private company which prosecutes those who don't pay. Remember there is no such thing as a "Detector Van" .. but they can monitor what you are watching over the internet .. so DO NOT play fast an loose .. ensure you are not "Breaking the rules".

A few things you can do.

1) Fill in an online registration that you don't watch live TV and don't need a license .. you'll have to do this every 2 years.

2) DO NOT allow entry to your house by Capita to "See the equipment" - they have no right of entry without a court order.

3) Tell the Capita personnel you "Remove their implied right of access to your property". That means if they come uninvited onto your property again they are trespassing.

I've been license free for over 10 years now.

@Clive if you are serious about this then you need to setup an advice page everyone can add to so they don't get caught out.

I had an empty property for rather longer than I liked as we were in the process of dealing with the local Council on the residency of said property.

I got pee'd off at the constant "reminders" from TVL even after I called and advised them of the situation which helped for4 a few weeks but then started again!, So I then started to ignore the "reminders, warnings and last chance" letters. After a while they stopped... then the process started again.

I very much doubt Capita bods were going to come down a 3/4 mile private farm drive, but if they had, I would have thrown the Removal of their implied right of access to your property card at them, just for sheer bloodymindedness.

This forum/ echo chamber is getting huge and distasteful.
Good luck with getting unbiased news from elsewhere. But that really isn’t what the majority on here want is it ? They want news that agrees with them and that they agree with.
It’s just sad ,ignorant and terrifying.
I’m not even sure what the bbc did wrong this time.are they not supposed to report on the UN anymore?
Do people on here seriously think intensive agriculture in its current form is good for the planet ?
They didn't report on the UN though did they? they came out with a load of propaganda about not eating meat when according to those who bothered to read the report it said nothing of the sort.
It said pasture fed livestock is part of the solution and that we should eat a balanced diet, which should really be aimed more at vegans than the rest of us.

As has been pointed out they are not officers; they are 'goons' employed by Crapita on commission to scare people. They have no powers whatsoever. Don't engage with them in any way. or respond to any letters etc. Much more info on the TV Licence Resistance Forums

I've not had a TV licence sice about 2010, I think.

I don't have a telly - I just had to phone them up and declare I didn't have a TV. I also wrote similar on the demand for payment. Occasionally they ring to ask if I still don't have a TV. Nobody has ever come round.

It does help that I literally do not have a television set though, anybody poking their nose through a window won't see one.

its doubtful the BBC was even truthful about itself .................... smells a bit like bullpoo to me !

In 2013, the Radio Times obtained a leaked internal document from the BBC giving a breakdown of prosecutions for TV licence evasion.[7]The 18-page document gave a breakdown of the number of people evading the charge, as well as mentioning the number of people employed to catch those who do not pay their television licence.[8] However, no mention was made of TV detector vans being used to catch such people, prompting media speculation over the truth of their existence. In response a BBC spokeswoman rejected claims that the vans are a hoax: "Detector vans are an important part of our enforcement of the licence fee. We don't go into detail about how many there are or how they work as this information might be useful to people trying to evade the fee."[7]

We don't have a TV set, though we do have a big black 32 inch monitor screen for watching programmes on the net with. Might be confused as one.

It's pretty clear that The BBC don't like us farmers , their agenda, bias and selective reporting of often dubious science seem clearly designed to destroy our industry at every and any available opportunity

So why are we standing for this and supporting them by paying our TV licence fees ?

I propose that as an industry we on mass refuse to pay our TV licences, I doubt it will bankrupt them but it will send a clear message we are not going to do nothing whilst they repeatedly punch us in the face

What will they do about it ? prosecute us all ? ........................ and do we care if they do ? If this was France I suspect thy would be removing trailer loads of FYM from Broadcasting house daily !

whose in ?
Not paid a licence since 2010 and have dozens of intimidating letters from them but never no action ,its a long story but they won't be getting any money from here

I'm pretty sure I was told that the BBC has about 5 detector vans and they aren't accurate enough to tell if it's your TV or your neighbour if you live on a terrace/semi
I’m sure I’ve heard there’s nothing in a detector van that can detect if you’ve got/watching a telly or not. it’s just a fancy made up van to perpetuate the myth.
Can’t be certain but I’m sure I saw one when I was young, can’t be sure, it could have been a photo promoting the propaganda

If the dependable trustworthy BBC have been lying about detector vans for the last 50 years to obtain funds, it rather undermines their position of authority as they should be above all that. Once again, they were lying for "the greater good "
