Migrants are desperate to get to Europe — just not France

No jobs and the language is hard work,
If you can peddle that without laughing, you should get a job as a spin doctor. "No jobs and the language is hard".................... as if they are just going to walk into jobs when they get here no problem. Many of them are from former French colonies in the first place .........erm.....they speak french.

Well i'll take the financial times word for it, rather than some nobody on an online forum, ;)

Better cheese.

You cannot be serious. England (yes, England, not rUK) makes the best cheeses in the world, although I do admit to having a liking for Caerphilly. No ifs or buts. Plain and simple.

As you know I have travelled the world a wee bit and for almost 50 years have consumed cheese after dinner. Tonight, as per usual, we had an English cheddar, French Raclette, Portuguese whatever (semi-hard) and Bavarian Blue on the table. Consequently over time I have consumed many of the world's cheeses. Obviously Port is a given.

Nothing is of comparable quality to English cheese. Unfortunately I am able to buy very little. I can buy Kerrygold, but they put too much salt in it. Not pleasant unless you use it in a dish to hide the salt. Not good for you either, too much salt.

When did you last try a range of traditional English cheeses from the different counties - at least three, and which French cheeses do you prefer?

I think that you need to tread Caerphilly Old Mac on such a subjective issue!

WTO option ... Tariffs are Taxes .. Governments are short of revenue .. Free trade is a farce ... If we have a 80 billion pound defecit with EU. .. Tariffs at 10 % say in future ..that's a 8 billion pound gift to treasury ...if trade levels stay the same .. I'm obviously missing something here .. Does it leed to inflation at too high a level ..?? Impose a land tax .. Remove all AG subs and all of a sudden the treasury is cock a hoop .. Now I know you are all laughing at this .. But don't discount any or all of it .. I'm only asking questions PLEASE knock down any or all of these scenarios .. I have no oplnion here I just want to know the counter arguments .. It is a discussion forum after all. ... jtt.

if we were to go wto option with the eu, with our trade deficit, we will always be the winner on who benefits the most from tarrifs, if the government was to pass these funds back via tax cuts and other incentives, not so sure the eu has the capacity to do the very same in a short time frame, they know this but are calling our bluff, the whole immigration debate is rubbish aswell, that could be easily cut down, but our current crop of politicians have no other way of growing the economy other than importing vast swathes of migrants to top up the tax intake, whilst not investing in infrastructure to house them, and thus don't want to do it.

if the treasury was that bothered about tax take, they would make the rules simpler and pull in that 15 billion that's being evaded,TM seems keen to get on, rather than the horse sh!t cameron acted out for the last 6 years, so change may come.

Ah the thorny prickly Question of tax avoidance ... Anyone got an answer for that .. What we could do is practice our invasion technique .. Give the marines. The SBS . The SAS. The Parachute Regiment ..Even the regular army the chance to perfect fast lighting invasion manoovers .. Start with isle of men .. Jersey next .. then a scoosh in the caribean ...Then when it comes to the big stuff like the Falklands the sequel we'd win again.. Oh and it's self funding .. Seriously tax avoidance and tax evasion if it was easy we'd have fixed it already. jtt

It's not easy, because those that created the system, want it like that, mostly lawyers that leave government and fill their boots afterwards, it needs dealing with, if we can put a man on the moon, we can make firms like google pay their bloody tax.

This is why they don't want to stay here
Taken from the French site for information for refugees;
*note that it is 5 years before the right to RMI is granted

Temporary residency card or permit

Persons granted subsidiary protection, as well as their spouse and their children under 19 years of age, also have the right to a temporary residence card (France 15 May 2006; ibid. Jan. 2006). However, married couples must have been married for at least one year or before subsidiary protection was granted (ibid.). The residency card is marked [translation] "private and family life" and allows the bearer to work in France . It is issued by a prefecture and is valid for one year (France terre d'asile 24 Jan. 2006). However, a residency card may be refused if there is [translation] "a threat to public order [or] polygamy" . The residency card may be renewed [translation] "if the reasons that originally justified its issuance still apply" ). Persons who have been granted subsidiary protection may obtain a ten-year residency card after they have been in France for five years .
Family allowance and the Minimum Income for Integration (RMI) benefit
According to Forum réfugiés, a French non-governmental organization that specializes in receiving refugees and defending the right to protection, recipients of subsidiary protection are granted immediate access to family allowance benefits . However, access to the Minimum Income for Integration (Revenu minimum d'insertion, RMI) benefit is granted only starting in their fifth year of residence in France.

In order to apply for family allowance, interested persons must [translation] "present proof that they have applied for a three-month renewable residency permit granting the right to work, issued when subsidiary protection was granted and accompanied by the decision of the OFPRA or the CRR [Refugee Appeals Board (Commission des recours des réfugiés)

The way I read pasties post was that they go to the uk for better cheese?
Anyway, it's not subjective at all is it. Everyone knows, the best cheese in the world is "Wensleydale"(y)
I did although it could have read either way. Mature cheddar for me. Nice and crumbly.
