Regular Oil Analysis

It has a wet sump and a second extended sump to extend service intervals. On the original oil Mobil Pegasus 610 it would struggle to do 1000 hours on the extended sump (500 on only the engine sump), but we are now using Petro-Canada Syntron CG40 which will easily do 1300 hours and is cheaper!
Are those two oils the same spec?

As near as can be, gas engine oil, the Pegasus 610 is the best of their range

What do you use for gas cleaning ? As a Biogas CHP operator you will know the benefits this has for the engine, and oil life expectancy.

Good secondary gas cleaning costs, and also has on-costs, however the balance or benefit is much reduced engine wear and maintenance costs such as extended oil life.

H2S is an engine killer.........

The engine is happy on <250ppm, we normally run at <100 ppm in the digester using either ferric hyrdoxide or a small air bleed to give us <0.5% oxygen. Apart from moisture removal that is all we do. I selected the CHP as they did not require activated carbon filtration.

Interesting, below 100ppm is a good place to be :)

When you make the annual emissions test, increasing air/gas ration will reduce NOx, however increase CO2 and reduce operating temp and efficiency slightly. However the increase in air value will also improve oil life.

We are on a T24 exemption so do not need annual emissions testing. We have an exhaust gas meter, and do occasional NOx adjustments but most of the time the engine just runs.
