Reliability of Electric Drive Entrance Gates

I reckon on 50% of all tradesmen (one man band type) being dodgy and cutting corners. It's a poor reflection on our society.
i think thats a little harsh,us one man and his lad type outfits have to abide by the rules as much as most, the sparks i use are stickerlers for the rules as is the plumber, you have to abide by the rules as the customer can check on us at anytime ( internet, building inspector, local council)

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. Just my experience.

Two plumbers and one spark I can think of have cut corners where they really needn't. Using wrong sized pipe, underspecced cable, no vents, glueing overflows on rather than using the proper screws, not thinking about cosmetics of placing cables in view etc etc. Makes me wonder how they get away with it and keep running their business.

That said though, one plumber and one spark have been excellent.

Some tradesmen are cheap for a reason.....others are expensive for no reason.

Builders, developers, tradesmen, you name it, there is an entire sub-sector of each industry populated with them, muppets the lot. They rely on ignorance of the customer to just pay and not care/notice what has or has not been done.

I get the impression these days that trademen are only interested in jobs where they get to fit 100 combination boiler and heating systems on new build housing estates or they aren't interested. Too much hassle to do small work except if you can charge stupid money.

If I had the time and money I would put myself on a colleges plumbing and electrical courses.

I am booked onto these training courses in January.
Very reasonable price.

Had an issue over the summer with ours.
Our 5m swing gate has photocells, amperic sensors set low enough that a strong wind will reverse the mechanism, and warning signs
Yet caught 2 young lads @ 10 year old riding the gate as it was opening and closing.
Now most of our customers come from Hartlepool, which does`nt have the largest gene pool around, but could not believe the reply I got from the parents when I asked them to control their kids

I did their advanced installer course a couple of years ago it was very good.

I've never done an auto gate since though, I think my quotes are too steep as I won't compromise on the safety kit.

People end up in jail when kids get squashed and it's usually the welder (that'll be me) according to the CAME course I did, or it's the engineer who touched it last, or the owner if it's not force tested every year.

And ignorance is no defence, if you've got an auto gate it would be worth being able to evidence annual servicing including force testing.

Did a lot of work in my sons house in chelt in the spring, the tiler, carpenters and decorators were pretty rubbish IMO the sparky did a top job though, after he had finished the painters said some of the lights upstairs werent working so I got up in the loft to have a look couldnt believe the mess of wires that had been installed over the years, just plain wires added here and there, just used red single core for everything, took me a long time to sort what was what, and put coloured tape so when sparky came back he knew which was live etc, he had a fit when he saw how it had been done.
