Whats everybodys views on a good uncomplicated 2nd hand 150-180hp tractor? Needs to be able to pick her feet up on the roads, pull a flatlift but also be handy enough around the buildings etc . Reliable, easy to fix/maintain and drive too, no vario's need apply. What will it cost ?

Anything 20 plus years old probably built in USA with a huge underated engine.as mentioned above with next to zero depreciation.if you want a deere be quick.lots are going home to USA and being overhauled for a new life with those who are fed up with the new ones and the problems that go with them.

Jd is goin to come in expensive. If i was lookin cheap id look for a 800 series renault. Sure they have problems but so does every tractor ever made so dont start way a list of all the pros and cons. Theyl be heck of alot cheaper and so much more comfortable than a 7010 series deere which can be bouncy. If not the renault then a 8200 series massey

Don’t know why people want 50k.my 7710 don’t ride too well at 20mph and that’s plenty quick enough.they are a draft tractor and too short in the wheelbase for comfortable road work even with tls which a lot of em don’t have

They are a strong tractor but bouncy, TLS or front links with a bottle are a must if you want to stand a chance of remaining in the seat.
 
A well set up 6930 is embarrassingly good.

So good it ruined 6150R’s.

I was discussing this with someone the other day, apparently the M and R series JDs can be similarly sorted. It's so much the power gain that makes the difference but in drive-ability? I haven't driven a chipped 150R so can't say but both the 190R and 210R I have felt very numb but they are a big lump of a thing.

Just bought a valtra T153 as a spare. Basic Hi Spec with levers 50k air and suspension 13 plate 3800hrs and tidy.
Bought from main dealer (no warranty) well under £30k.
Feels fairly unstoppable on 3.5m subsoiler and 4m terrano.
There should be a home in the woods for it in 5 yrs time.
May only do 300 hrs per year but as long as it has no major breakdowns it will not be expensive.
I can afford to keep it to 5000 hrs and look for £20k for it.

Yes they are a big lump, but JD seem to map them for loads of mid torque with little top or bottom. Setting of loaded into a hill for example they are poor, once going they can maintain steady speed more than satisfactory.

A remap does tend to sort them out, but really they shouldn’t need it.

That seems to go for most modern engines though. I can't remember when I last saw a tractor tested (in profi etc.) that had a steady even torque rise from 2000 down to <1200 rpm

Funny you say that as had a 40k 7530 with cab and axle suspension and that was a real nodding donkey on the road. 66's with TLS were a way smoother ride.
