Remember this figure: more than £18k per head

The UK has, by generally recognised figures*, just over eleven million people on 'low incomes' / 'in poverty', and spends over £210 billions on welfare. That work out at over £18k per head - not per family, but for every single person in these categories, man, woman and child.

This being so how is it in any way possible that we still have 'poor' people? Take a typical family, two adults and two children, and there will be over £70k spent on them.

This is madness. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Ah but is the welfare budget you illustrate the total figure for all types of welfare, not just low income groups?

Well, I would be pretty pee'd off with a farm sub of only 70k, wouldn’t you?

This may seem daft Martin, but, ignoring pensions, does the welfare budget not go to low income groups? It would strike me as daft if it went to high income groups (but wouldn’t surprise me🙄)
20 billion goes to landlords via housing benefit. This could be construed as a subsidy to the housing market. Given the shortage of affordable homes in the UK there is no easy way to reduce this figure.

Child tax credits go to anyone that has a child under 16 (or in full time education). I'm not sure what the threshold is for working tax credits, but it's quite a high household income figure iirc, just tapered as income goes up.

Probably includes all subs that indirectly help the tax payers. 🤣🤣
Just a merry go round of tax income to the exchequer for the sharp to skim the cream off,.

I will say, I spent a Sunday night In a Swansea travel lodge, a few weeks back and was surprised on the Monday morning when there was a lady with two primary school age kids (dressed to go to school) who had obviously been there a long time. Well the 8 year old boy had been there long enough to show me how the tea machine worked😂

Figures from 2015, but I doubt the proportions have changed much...
