After hearing Boris claiming great victory in allowing everyone under the sun to import meat into this country ,while totally determined to kill every living farm creature as they harm the planet, someone please tell him just because an animal is reared overseas it’ still farts Boris just like our cows do.So explain to me how allowing a third country to produce meat for us ,transport it half way round the world is a better out come than the best livestock welfare, traceability and low transport farm to plate in this country. If someone soon doesn’t stand up to this goverment and it’s double standards we are doomed Mr Mannering. The only thing wrong with this carbon carry on is folk need to cut back on their making of it ,Cut back on energy required ,like turn a light off, walk a bit more, and heat only the room you sit in.Because when they continue to demand more and more energy tje time will come when nothing else to blame but human race

Of course what Boris is suggesting will, indeed, create many times more emissions than producing meat in a sustainable way here in the UK.It will be produced overseas with less animal welfare ,probably treated with medicines banned in the UK and then shipped or flown into the UK creating massive emissions . We'll plant a few trees, which incidentally is not as good as grass for capturing carbon, and Boris will think we've saved the planet.
I've always voted Conservative but this man is a buffoon and the worse deputy PM ever.

The simple answer to the question is that every living creature produces CO2. It is simply a by product of energy generation and the more energy expended the more CO2 is produced. Thus the athlete or the footballer are two examples of people who pollute our planet in an extravagant fashion. Should such extreme activity be banned and only those exertions which have a productive outcome be allowed? A treadmill running a generator perhaps?
I am not sure what these 25,000 people are going to be waffling about in Glasgow but I am quite sure that many of them will not see the broader picture. For example, a car powered by an internal combustion engine may be a relatively inefficient user of energy in a hot country but will perform much better in a cold country, simply because the waste heat energy will be utilised to heat the cabin. An electric car on the other hand is far more efficient and less polluting until a large percentage of energy used is to heat the cabin. In order to raise cabin temperature to 20c when ambient temperature is zero can reduce the range by 40% and this inefficiency has to be paid for by producing more electricity and bigger batteries.

I get your point about using ICE in colder countries and electric in sunnier countries but in those sunnier countries it tends to be hot so you would need AC which would drain the batteries....but maybe there is enough sunshine but don't they have shorter daylight periods?

I take your point. Cooling things down is an energy drain but warming things up using waste heat rather than generated energy is a plus surely.

I think I’m just happy in the knowledge that now is the best time to be living.

One hundred years ago life for many people was full of drudgery and illness. But in 100 years time I dread to think what state the planet will be in.

I’ll do what I can and what I can afford, but the politicians are letting the world down.

Humans will be the victims of their own success. I’m more worried for my as yet not even thought about grandchildren than I am for ourselves.

Have I missed something ? Thought I read on here that Boris has vetoed a tax on meat ? A tax that the livestock industry was proposing. I'm no hardcore Tory - will only vote Conservative if there isn't a Green candidate - but I think attacking the PM is missing the point. It is UK ag - NFU, AHDB, NBA - that is your problem.

Disgusted that that "evidential" document "withdrawn" from the suite of Gov documents and "exposed" by Greenpeace featured beef and lamb as "High carbon foods"

Someone asked me the other week what sort of world will my 1 year old grow up to be in. I was a little worried of the prospect.

I personally believe the best times have gone, my mates great uncle died aged 92 last week. Talking about it, he had a good life in what, in my eyes, was the best generation to be living.

The Green Party had a meat and dairy tax plan in their manifesto at the last election.

All the farmers in UK should save up, buy a good land package and declare independence. How much would Scotland cost as a post independence basket case?
