Many a good crop of hay spoilt by winters dead growth
What are the ticks in @Kevtherev and @Great In Grass profile boxes under their avatars?
Well I know I amApparently it means they are trustworthy. What it says about the rest of us that don’t have one I’m not sure.
Mowing/harvesting is done as much as anything ..to feed and keep the stock off the wet ground in the winter. not modern thinking i grant you.
Housing stock will be back in vogue much sooner than ten trs with all the wet weather we've been getting. I wish I had space to house all ours this year.Give it ten years and it'll come round to being 'modern thinking' again. These things usually go round in cycles.
I would just leave it and try and get an early cut (if the weather allows) with a drum mower.I have a lot of dead grass in my hay fields as wecouldnt get some of the second cut done and didnt want to waste money making round bales in late autumn as no market for it and my sheep man hasnt come this year, if I drag the rake through it when it dries up will it be gone before we cut the hay or is it best left? If I thought we were going to be dry in april I would cut it then, wrap it and go for a later hay cut
