Removing loose paint from concrete floor

Two floor areaa approx 15' x 10' each. Need to remove flaking paint, then repaint.

Is a grinder and wire brush the best option?

Guessing I'd probably need to prep the floor with something after before applying the floor paint?

Hire a concrete scarifier or floor grinder from HSS, Travis etc. It’s a slow job but gives a good finish in the end. You will beed to hire a large vacuum cleaner to go with it aswell for the dust.

As above and as for prep there’s primers for most floor paints. If you can stomach the costs the best system I’ve ever used was a 2 pack poly resin that you put down with a pin rake great hard wearing finish could drive all sorts over it without problems where as paint I have to re do every year (y)

I would say wire brush on a angle grinder would do a pretty good job .
If you are painting it with something a bit more exotic than just basic concrete paint I would spend some money and get it done properly .

We had a guy come and attempt to paint one of our floors with I think some PU floor paint it was a two pack product and he clearly didn't have a lot of idea as his idea of floor prep was a grinder scarifier from local hire company there was dust everywhere but it didn't take all the old paint off or what ever had contaminated the concrete over the years and it all reacted and bubbled up with tiny bubbles when the new paint was applied he ground it again and then repainted it but still the same crap result he left with his tail between his legs.
you can get a proper contractor to do the prep with something called a blast trac we had a guy in with one before and its some tool blast small steel shot at the floor and suck it and dust up again.

Thanks for the input. Ended up getting a wire brush for the cordless grinder and it worked pretty well.

Concrete was quite powdery and dusty so painted it with a hardener and now following up with a proper floor paint.

Fingers crossed!

We’ve been using the cheap Leyland Screwfix paint at work for many years now, TFR and pressure washer and recoat every two years. It’s not peeling away unless someone drags something heavy along it or drops something. Did a lean to bay concrete floor of bare screeded concrete two years ago, again TFR and pressure washer then concrete sealer then poured the paint on and rollered it around. First application took some serious paint. It’s very easy to sweep and keep clean now though.

Traffic film remover?
Mild acid eh

Yes, through the hot pressure washer. Clean the whole floor as you would be painting it with a 4 inch brush! Another operative or two with squeegees is recommended aswell. Takes time but it’s completely degreased then ready for paint. Up to now we’ve not had any paint react.
