Removing passports and drivers license from drug users

Wasn't the idea of taking away driving licences floated a few years for something else? Perhaps refusing a job when on benefits?

Anyway, afaik, the whole idea was scrapped as it would "punish" the rest of the household/family-no shopping trips, kids walking to school etc.

Two North Shropshire Tory councillors have defected to other parties days before a by-election for a new MP.
Anthony Allen becomes the first elected official of Reclaim, which was set up by actor Laurence Fox last year.
Meanwhile, Mark Whittle joins Reform UK, the party created by Nigel Farage after Brexit.
The Conservatives are hoping to hold on to the North Shropshire constituency on 16 December. The seat was made vacant when former MP Owen Paterson resigned.
The Conservative ex-minister was found to have breached lobbying rules.
Voters will have a choice of 14 candidates when they go to the polls.
Deputy Mayor of Market Drayton Mr Whittle described his defection as "the most difficult decision I have ever made" and said it had come after "a great deal of soul searching".
"I'm faced with no choice... how can I possibly back a candidate from Birmingham who has zero knowledge of North Shropshire and the challenges our community faces," he said.
"The Conservatives should have selected locally rather than be pressured into supporting someone with no prior interest or knowledge of the area."
Conservative candidate Neil Shashtri-Hurst comes from Birmingham but has promised in his campaign material that his home "will be here in North Shropshire".

'Frustrated'

Mr Whittle's fellow Conservative councillor in Market Drayton, Mr Allen, also left the Conservatives, to join Reclaim.
In a statement he said: "The Conservatives simply aren't conservative any more - they've gone soft on illegal immigration, they've lost control of taxation and are obsessed with crippling green taxes nobody wants.
"Like so many others, I'm getting more and more frustrated day by day with the continual cuts to public services."
He said he would now be supporting Reclaim's candidate in the by-election.
Mr Fox welcomed Mr Allen's decision to join his party saying: "It's imperative that politicians like Anthony are free to speak their minds, rather than being constrained by a party that cares more for fashionable, metropolitan opinions rather than the sincerely held views of their membership.
"Anthony is our first councillor, but - watch this space - he won't be our last," adding that his party was launching a "'Town Hall Takeover' of Britain ahead of the next general election".

Think that it's dawning on people that novelty only lasts so long!

The other thing is that it could prevent them earning their livelihood. Many people rely on having a driving licence for their job.

Should they be not doing random drug tests in the commons like they do at other work places
I have heard how many work there, it’s a staggering number that dwarfs the number of MP’s.
Just because drugs residues have been found there doesn’t necessarily mean MP’s are taking them..... Although my thoughts suddenly spring to Rees Mogg sprawled across the benches 😂😂😂

I think most of our anti drug laws only go back about 100 years. I think registered addicts were allowed access to legal drugs from pharmacies until 50 years ago, may be less

Dr Shashtri-Hurst doesn't look the most suitable candidate for a rural Conservative constituency and as an ambulance chasing lawyer just makes it worse. :scratchhead:
