Removing paths added on ramblers ‘don’t lose your way’ maps

As the title says I have just seen that we have some paths shown on the ramblers ‘don’t lose your way’ maps.
How would I get these removed or contest that they are not actually paths, I think I did see a thread on this previously but cannot find it.
Thanks for any advice

We have 2 marked aswell.

As far as i know, being marked on their map doesn't mean anything. They still have to put an application in to have them re instated.

The parish council here had a big rationalisation in the 1950s when they drew up the definitive map and got rid of a lot of the footpaths that weren't used/ needed. I just hope that they did extinguish them properly and didn't just "not bother" marking them on the definitive map.

So, does the blue dotted line mean they are no longer classed as a right of way ?

I think so they went looking at all the 1900 maps for anything that had Fp listed on them and then drew in the map. We have one that was moved by the mod up a track but they have drawn the old line as well on this ramblers map as it’s shown on the old map layer. You can choose the maps as the layer on the website and it will probable show it as this

C**p. Just realised we have an ex-right of way right across one of the fields, right along the edge of the vegetable garden. it is only shown on an 1800ish OS map, not currently shown in the definitive map.

Do you have to join Ramblers to see the map they are playing with?

🤦‍♂️ffs, got 4 marked on us :banghead: it’s no wonder these people tramping crops round fields where we’ve never had a problem before!
Doesn’t look like they have any interest in taking them off the map either!

:banghead: dam it there is one on us and it would be a bloody nuisance it created They can get stuffed! intesting to see a structure on the farm on the old map that no longer exists. I did wonder about a structure being there, it always turns up some broken brick and burnt soil when ploughed.

It seems plenty of us have these ‘old paths’ marked on our farms, my question is what can we do to stop them becoming PROW?
is just putting up signs saying they are not PROW enough, or should we be proactive in contacting the council before the ramblers do?
What is the ramblers process for trying to reinstate them?

I think that a lot of FPs are in line to be lost, and therefore need to be registered again, this includes the ones that are regularly used today, not just the old historic ones, certainly in the past a footpath had to be used, possibly once a year to be retained, I have 3 rights of way across the farm, and while those who use them can be a nuisance, as I get older and more laid back prior to being laid out! they are part of our heritage, the right of the ordinary folk to get from A to B unhindered, (very important after our common rights were stolen by the enclosure act.) I know this isn't a popular view on here (tin hat on) but I quite like having a little mooch in the English countryside judging my neighbors efforts. but I do agree that a lot of FPs are now defunct or duplicated or need moving out of the way.

i registered when it first came out and ticked the ‘all is fine, nothing to see here’ box.

sadly others have checked and picked up on one.

you need to register your land with the council but it may be a bit late now.

if possible use old stakes and fence wire and ’refit‘ the fence there.

most folk have done little more then study maps to make these suggestions. If the path in question has an old fence running across it with brambles etc then surely it’s hard for them to prove otherwise....

it’s a pain and costs man hrs But we have to protect our land from modern footpath walkers wanting to relive the lives of the postman and baker in the 50’s who used these paths for A PURPOSE!,

i have a farm track which I gave permission to the council to use as a permissive path about 30 years ago when the community forest was trying to improve access. It linked two linear paths to create a circular route.
I have now sold the buildings to which the track goes and the builder has blocked the access for security.
The council do not have any record of allowing permissive access.
I did a declaration in 2013 but the ramblers are claiming they had used it unchallenged for 20 years before that.
Supposedly 50 people have put in a claim but we are not allowed to see their identity! So they could have moved in last week.
It appears the council rights of way officer is judge and jury.
WTF

Well stories like this will certainly discourage land owners from allowing any new permissive paths, make sure to point this out to the ROW officer! I would assume the ROW officer is only judge and jury until you block the access, then the case against you would surely have to be tested by an actual judge and jury?

I think you ned to find a copy of the letter you sent to the council, giving your permission for it to be used as a permissive, path. If you have given permission at any time they cannot assume a right.
Make sure your letter looks of a suitable age too😉
