Renewable Installations Business rates

Just had a Business Rate assessment from the Valuations Officer. I have also been informed that because of the assessment I can no longer claim Small business Rate relief on the first Installation

Has anyone appealed any of these in regards to renewables ?

Had one wind turbine installed in 2013 been paying business rates on that. Put another up in 2015 and now they want rates for this also. Problem is I now do not qualify for small business rate relief 50% because of the combined rateable value.

Just had a letter from the VOA. Apparently my 80kW turbine is going to have a rateable value of £9675 from April. I thought £14/kW was the sort of figure, not £120. There's something about micro power generators's exemption ceasing from April - does anyone know more about this? Might I still qualify for small business relief?

Got a letter from the Valuations Office notifying me that the new 2017 valuations are available to view www.gov.uk/voa/revaluation, my 500kw wind turbine has increased from £10,500 Rateable Value to £33,000!!!! You have until 30th November to appeal. I would advise everyone to check theirs

That's a bit different from mine - it says that it can be challenged after 1/4/17. Have no option otherwise as it's not currently listed. I take it that you can find yours after entering your postcode? I wonder how they are doing their sums if 80kW has a rateable value of nearly £10k and 500kW is £33k?

I just entered my postcode and they appear.
I have not worked out any logic to it?? Have another 500Kw in an adjacent field which I have in a different business ownership, presently it is valued at £10,000 and are proposing a RV of £22,000 looked at some other 500Kw Turbines in the region, most seem to be getting increased two or three fold and some don't seem to be listed.

Our turbine's been working for a couple of years now but we've never had any communication from the local council about rates. Does everyone have to pay these and if so why have we not been contacted? Bit of a worry now seeing the figures in this thread.

They contacted me and billed from date of commissioning. I think the local councillor may have tipped them off!!
