3wks i think mine tookHow long are people finding it is taking from giving it to doctors surgery, to being told it’s ready to collect ?
A willing and friendly Doctor didn’t get paidI got forms through the post, including a template letter to send to my doctor which I completed and sent in. I was in the doctor's for something unrelated and asked the doctor about the FAC letter which I'd addressed to him personally, No, he hadn't seen it but it would be no problem anyway.
Got my certificates (long story), then later got a letter from the surgery saying they'd be happy to send the doctor's letter when I'd paid the fee. I replied that the letter was no longer needed because I'd already got the certificates so wouldn't be paying any fee!!!
The whole system is a complete cock up from start to finish.
Well, that's ten years without a medical certificate. I can live with that! The invoice was only for £26 anyway.A willing and friendly Doctor didn’t get paid
…….you’re stuffed next time then
If the average GP practice was a private or Ltd Company, the Official Receiver would be on fast dial!My local doctor did it within a day, money for old rope if you ask me. Me and my dad renewed both at the same time. He got his new certificate in 10 days mine never came. Turns out they had processed it but forgotten to post it. How long would I have been waiting unless I had chased it
Last renewal the doctors referred me to a commercial service which is supposed to get your records and check them. In spite of applying months ahead time went on and they did nothing. Eventually I got our doctors surgery to relent and they provided me with one. I never got the£60 back from the company and got a£50 invoice from the surgery. The firearms department of Dyfed Powys police were good, however a friend who forgot to renew has had all his guns seised so it's important not to leave things to the last moment.
Use MedCert if your doctor is uncooperative or busy, costs £60 (£50 if a member of certain organizations), I haven't used them myself as my doctor did do a letter for me without delay for less than that.
However I have heard of extortionate rates being charged by certain practices for letters - £100+. If I was in that instance I'd be using MedCert myself as that is what's advised on the shooting forums I use.
Have a look on www.medcert.co.uk. P.S. I have nothing to do with Medcert myself, I've just read about a lot of people who have doctors who won't do them and having to move practice to get them done....
