Replacing a 6480

Apologies as some of this discussion has been covered in previous threads, but quite disjointed.
Due to replace a 2011 6480, options so far are 7718, Puma 165, T7.210 and Fendt 516.
Have only had road-runs in them. 7718 is OK, not as comfortable as 6480 and I'm unsure about cab layout. Anyone able to comment on improvements in the braking area?!
Puma 165, very well layed out but not as comfortable as 7718. Hows their reliability? T7210 classic is more expensive and not as well layed out as Puma.
Fendt 516 Power, probably not a match for the other replacements but anyone able to compare their abilities to a 6480?

2000gallon tanker, 4 furrow reversible with springs and discs are it's main duties of note. 6480 was fine with both but on the steep banks didn't boost in 2nd gear when ploughing. Do Varios need replacing at the 4/5000 hr mark?!

11700hrs on a 7480, 6000hrs on a 7495 and another 6000 between two 7620's, not come close to replacing a vario. Air brakes on the tanker worth considering. 7718 exclusive worth the extra, much nicer to use than the T handle.
I'd be considering a Puma as an alternative to a ferg, much nicer in the cab than a NH and more any driver proof than a Fendt.

How many hrs/what spec is your 6480? Looking for one to replace the 6180 we lost to fire last September.

4 furrow no problem, could handle 5 on heavy ground. Varios are very reliable, they just get abused by some drivers, some do a lot of road work with heavy loaded trailers, if you brake using the vario all the time, in time it puts stress on the transmition, by useing the brake pedal as well to slow down it takes the stress off the trans.I have known varios still going strong on 15000 hrs, The thing is, we only here about the ones that go wrong, not the ones that dont

That's good to hear...I was of the impression they had a lifespan. 7718 was Efficient spec but tbh I struggle to see the benefit of the little joystick when it's functions are very nearby, but the Exclusive joystick would be ideal with PTO on it.
2011 Perkins 6480 (grey chassis) with 2200hrs, 50k, 4 spools

In 16 years we've gone from a 125hp 6280 (ultra reliable, just needed 15hp more and some weight at certain times of the year) to a 145hp 6480 which has bossed everything except the plough as no boost when needed the most, not sure if we need a tractor boosting to 200hp, hence the Fendt has been considered. Look forward to a demo tbh

What gear do you plough in? I recon you get boost in 3rd and 4th range

If you need more power when ploughing you need to look at real horsepower not boosted horsepower, treat the boost as a bonus. Is there any benefit to having a vario if the main jobs are ploughing and pulling a tanker? Would a powershift box not be more efficient?

i wasn't aware that a 516 boosted to 200hp like you state? I'm pretty sure its the power it says on the side with no gimmicks, the fendt won't go as well as the other possible choices but it would be the most rewarding place to spend a long day

Hi. We've just swapped a 6480 for a kubota 7151. Only just happened but we all love the orange. Can't really justify a vario but really like it and handy for many jobs. Didn't like nh. Mf and fendt too complicated for jump on. Almost bought jd 6145 auto power but local chap just gone on selling kubota so tried it, liked it a lot, loved 5 yr warranty and the price was v good. Too early to be sure and doesn't seem as quick getting to 40k on road as 6480 with a load but ok for other stuff at the moment

Fully agree on the 6280 as Massey had one hell of a solid range in the 62's but such a shame they totally wrecked that with the 64's in my experience
