Replacing bulb in jaeger unit

Hi,
I’m struggling to replace a bulb in a Renault jaeger unit. I’ve tried easing bulb out of holder, but it won’t move.

Then thought bulb would come out of the back, but cannot get the temp and fuel guage off, to access screws beneath to get circuit board out.

Can anyone help please?

Not done a Renault before but they look very like others I've seen.
Those you push them down, twist anticlockwise & they pull out.

Yep, I did that on one and it won’t come out of the front. It has a wide collar at the back, so will not pass through the hole.

Ok cheers.

To get to the back I need to take out the fuel and temp units. Anyone know how do I get these off. They seem to be screwed down and I can’t get the top covers off to access the screws. The covers have some movement but will not come off, they seem to be held by the two small black rivet heads... plus I don’t want to damage the pointers.

Surely they’re capless bulbs that pull out the holder. Thats what they look like. Have you tried any others to see if they pull out easier?

They are bulb holders that need to be rotated 90 deg and removed from the back. If you look at the one, top centre it looks like it has been rotated already as the contacts aren't touching the connections on the circuit board. However I would have thought you could pull the bulbs out from the front.

Some are the type that will pull out of the holder but others have the filament contacts going down through the holder and bent right round to hold them firmly hence the need to remove the holder from the back.

I can see through the back with a torch and the rear of the bulb holder is wider than the hole, so has to come out of the back. The loose bulb is the one is tried to pull out from front with no luck.

Could I do a continuity test on the circuit board to check the bulb? I can see the live feed and earth to each bulb. Obviously does not solve the problem of getting a dead bulb out, but at least I would know which are working.

No, there are 2 securing screws on the circuit board under the gauges.

I can see 3 screws under each guage, but I cannot get the picture covers off to access the screws.

I just checked the claas parts website, but it doesn’t show enough detail to work out how the gauges are secured. This is for a 106-54, not sure what you have.

Just had a look at your picture again. Can you push the centre pin of the plastic rivet down through the rivet? If so, then you will be able to remove the rivet. To re install, you then install the rivet and push the centre pin in from the top, expanding the rivet.

Thanks for the blow up pic. I have a 90-34, but I would imagine the part is the same. Shame the detail is limited.

Fraid the black rivet heads are metal and won’t budge.

I have taken another pic looking under the gauges, but it is not too clear. You should be able to see the brass threads of at least one of the guage screws.

Excuse the silver jubilee mug...lol

Can’t see the brass screws from the picture, but looking at the full assembly, it looks like they should just pull out, once the two start head screws are removed.
There will be a few contacts into the board below, so slight pressure will be required.
However, you have probably tried this.
I accept no responsibility for any damage caused.:)

Scrap that idea, looks like the brass contacts attach to the main circuit board from underneath, if it’s anything like this one.
looks like the gauges and main circuit board should pull out as unit, then you can unscrew the gauges from the bottom side where, your bulbs will be.

The rivets are just a domed metal head, no screw head.

I can see the bottom of the brass threads from the rear of the unit, so screw heads have to be beneath the top covers. The covers do move slightly but I can’t see how they would come over the rivet head without possible damage to the pointers. And I don’t want to risk that.

Neah mind, I’ll keep thinking and keep you posted if I have success.

Really appreciate your help, great forum.
