Replacing wood trusses

I have a small shed approx 40 x 27 that is on traditional wooden trusses. How ever these are past their best now and so need replacing. I can’t go down the portal route as they sit on brick pillars. Has any one ever had any made up new from steel?? I image some 7x 4 rafters would be fine if tied together some how at the bottom?.
Thanks

Are you going to strip the roof and replace them or do you intend to try and take one out and replace it with steel ?

We are having a roof rebuilt on a house that is different to barn as the ceilings are partially held up by the roof trusses I had assumed the truuses would be pulled out and replaced , as the trusses have pretty bad wood worm but the joiners are spraying them with wood treatment and then "plating" them either side with plywood which they say they have done many times before and will be stronger then new once done, the rest of the wood roof is being stripped and replaced and the slates re used but to take out and replace the trusses was in our case impossible unless we put new ceilings in the first floor.
"plating" the existing trusses with plywood could be an option for you maybe ?

Yes we are looking to replace with steel. Looked at plating them with ply but the joiner was not keen. I’m sad to lose the king post frames but think it will have to be. Looking to prob use something like 7x4 for the rafters but it just figuring out how to tie them together?

I made several 30 foot roof trusses out of steel 30 years ago - they are still fine.

I used 75 x 50 x 6mm angle for the whole thing. Some were 20 foot bays.

I am no structural engineer but for a 27 foot span 7 x 4 would be a bit heavy duty imho, think of the poor brick piers.

Will take a picture if I remember.

The ones above were put up in 1950 or so and are 15 feet apart and 30 feet span, I vaguely copied these.

The ones above I made, they are 38 feet wide and the bays are almost 20 feet.

I made them in the workshop by making one triangle with the bit carrying the purlin cleats as a base, before I welded on the cleats I made the opposite triangle on top of it so that they were the same. Repeated that twice (there are only 3 trusses in this shed) and then turned the final bit over and welded up 2 more like the first I made.

Then I welded two triangles together, used that as a template for the other two trusses and finally welded on the cleats when I had made all 3 full trusses welding the wall plate (or post top plate) on last of all - actually in this shed due to the buildings not being square with each other - I welded on the plate on the left hand side after I had got the truss on top of the posts.

I hope that makes sense. Not much snow load down here.

One of the other ones I built - there were 8 trusses in this run, the middle wall is being held up by the truss - not the other way round, I spaced the cleats here so that full sheets of ply could be used as insulation under the tin - the other sheds were fibre cement of course.

Hope that this helps.
