Looking at DD grass seed into PP this Autumn , would a v low rate of Roundup suppress the old grasses long enough for the new seeds to take off ? If so how low would you go ?

if you click search at the top then advanced and scroll down to the google enhanced box..... look for chemical topping. Nobody seems to know why but the standard TFF search is about as much use as a chocolate teapot!
I'll tag @JD-Kid for you as I think I've seen him mention it before.

personally I'd lime, ready for acid dead turf, so lime even if you think you don't need it, direct drill, wait a few days and spray at full rate, and a good dose of P and K of some sort.... even if you think you don't need it.

we suffer from Yorkshire fog here and it'll soon wreck a dd ley if the old turf isn't well dead...... in fact it'll wreck it even then very often.

Chances are your old ley would overwhelm the new in no time.
Fine if you only want to extend your pasture for a couple of years imo.
Lot doing it around here
After 3rd cut silage .
Depends on the ley I suppose. If its a thin rygrass ley it works better
And you have to use the right seed . Tetraploids , late diploids are hopless

I have got to do some, was wondering whether something like dd winter beans with a dose of kerb ready to reseed the following harvest, or maybe after the following wheat. Or what about a forage crop instead? I just wonder whether a small seed might not survive the onslaught from the biology built up in the grass.

If your putting forage crops in you realy need to burn it
Old pasture for reseeding grass ,if your burning that be carfull , ok with forage crops but direct reseed can be risky

Overseeding . Dont work in old matty pastures needs to be into an open ley preferably after cutting and use the correct seed . Vigorous Tetraploids, we have a special overseeder mix specific for that job , if anyone wants details then please pm me
And one last point , dont drill to deep especially in this weather, half an inch is ample . Grass seed will run out of steam before it its emerged if much deeper
