Resetting a Trimble 750 Screen and restoring data

As I posted on here a month or so back, my Trimble 750 screen had a meltdown at the beginning of harvest.

I made it through harvest with it working ok, but now need put it all back as best as I can as it was before.

I have some configuration files saved to USB - one for Combine and one for Drill
I also have found the field data saved to another USB also which contains all of my AB lines

I've searched a few threads on here which show how to save and restore field data. @marks has even mentioned in some posts how it is possible to edit field data using OpenOffice and then reload them
I'm also aware of how to save/load configurations which I understand contain quite a lot of data other than just the calibration settings for each machine.

I am nervous of intentionally wiping everything once more, and then making a right mess of the system so I can't use it when I need to.

Can anyone who has done it please talk me through the process that I need to go through please to get things back as I would like them?

My understanding is I need to

A) Hard reset the box by holding all three buttons on the back when it is booting up
B) Load a configuration file from the USB which will import the calibration settings for the machine and the GPS Rangepoint signal data
C) Load the field data from the USB also

@marks I'd really appreciate your help with talking me through editing the AB lines too if that were possible please. I seem to have 2-3 AB lines saved from each field, as well as a couple of shifted AB lines. Is this something you could advise me on please?

If I'm not careful and I don't get all the steps in the right order I can see myself making a right mess of this somehow...! :X3:

That's basically it. Before you start, download whatever field data you've got on it (to another USB if possible to keep good & questionable data separate). I think it's called backup. I also think you have to save the profiles one by one separately, if there's anything worth keeping. Have a good look at what's on the stick before starting the hard reset. I have a typical copy here if it helps.

To get the fields back on, they need to be in client/farm/field structure in the aggps folder (not where the downloaded ones will be). Profiles at the top level of the stick iirc.

You can rename AB lines by editing the dbf file in excel (2003 or earlier) and save back as a dbf. Deleting can be done in qgis but that is not for the faint hearted. Don't delete the infill AB that was recorded when doing the boundary or all hell will break loose.

If in any doubt, save another copy of everything to your hard drive, suffixed with where it came from.

You may need the original rangepoint email code, or help from where you got it. I don't think it's in the profiles, only that they should use RP.

Thank you.

I’ve just done a hard reset and started following the steps.
Added the RTX subscription code
Then loaded a configuration profile.

I went to go and create a field and found that some client and field names are still present. Have these loaded back in from the Save/Load config?

I’ve tried going to Settings/Data/Manage Data to delete fields, but there’s no option for “Internal” any more. [EDIT: "Internal" appeared once I had saved the first field]

Where should I go from here?

Having just created a field….it now seems that when I go to Select Field only one Client/Farm/Field appears which is exactly what I want.

I just cannot under and why there are present when I go to “Create New Field”.

Data management is simply not its strongest point. Even when something is deleted, traces remain. I gave up trying to delete events - just downloaded once a season and binned the event folders before reloading.

Have you fields worth reloading, or just going to start from scratch again?

I decided today the simplest thing was probably to start from scratch.

I've got tramlines visible in all fields, so can easily run up them with A and B to get them stored back in the box again.

My old "fields" stored in the box had multiple AB lines stored in them from when I first got it 10+years ago and didn't quite understand it. I accidently shifted some lines and then "saved" them.

So by starting from scratch I can get it nice and simple with just a single AB line for each field. I can also visit the fields in turn alphabetically to get the list of fields in a proper order rather than the randomness I had before.

Got a bit of a system going now so hopefully I'll be able to get them all finished up and stored tomorrow. I'm also updating all the "config" profiles while I'm doing it because I lost the most recent ones, and so have to reload from some older ones that were before 2019 when the frequency changed. Plan is to get them all as I want them by saving to USB, then once they're all good I can save that copy onto the internal memory also.

From there on hopefully it'll all be more organised and a lot easier to manage. (y) It's been a job I've been meaning to do for ages (found a post from 2017 on here where I said I was going to!) but always put it off for fear of screwing it up - and then the screen having a meltdown has rather forced my hand and made me do it.

Sounds good. If the fields get out of order again, you can re-arrange them by downloading and reloading one by one, in reverse order.

Thank you, that's really handy.

Sounds very strange that - when storing the first fiends from scratch yesterday afternoon I tested to see whether they store in forwards, or reverse order. I expected reverse, so did that.....then found that it was actually forward order.

So to hear that reloading them from USB is done in reverse order made me laugh.

No logic to these Trimble boxes that's for sure.

Well, if I'm truthful, I can't say 100% for fields, but clients are best loaded that way. I used them to group temporary, disposable, fields and copies with a false headland to enable steering on the first pass.

Just to follow up on this again - I've got a second 750 screen and I'm thinking once I've got the first one all as I want it, trying to then load the data onto the second screen as well.

Loading configuration files is simple enough as I've now got them all sorted and stored on the USB.

But reading through all this again, how do I then load the field data onto the new screen from the USB?

You need to put the fields into the aggps folder that should have been created on the usb. This isn't where they are downloaded to. Iirc, it should be e: (or whatever)/aggps/client/farm/field.

I'm really struggling to remember. Thinking data management, load fields from usb. Mine's boxed up, so can't check.

Thank you.

Just did another Google and found this previous post on TFF that I remember seeing a few months back

From 750 to 750
Plug in USB stick then select settings/data/manage data/USB/send data/send fields to USB then select farm/fields etc you want to copy then complete
Plug into other 750 then select settings/data/manage data/USB /retrieve data/get fields from USB then select the required farm/fields etc bingo!
Although you cannot delete your original lines you can add a new a/b line by hitting field button and when it says have you finished working with field select no then add new ab line
Hope this all makes sense and helps you it's taken me two years of playing and I'm still learning
