Silver mist is one of the worst colours to spray.
Spray several light coats first around the lugs, and edges to build up protection on the worst place to cover.
Then when satisfied there, start spraying lots of light coats around the rims.

The best method is to remove the tyres and make up some rails the width of the rim well and support safely on trestles.
Then you can roll the rims if need be (y)

Important to have a good coat of paint on the wheels, they are the first thing to start rusting, especially on a working tractor.
Did you try the sponge technique on the bits that have a little to much (usually around the brackets)? the corner of a small clean sponge, dab the wet paint until it disappears .........
I didn't know about sponge or brush to spread the runs, I will know for next time of course

But how do you get tyres on without damaging fresh paint ?

But if you have "a good coat of paint" its still very hard without some damage
Never marked the outside of a wheel yet when fitting tyres
The trick is to get the correct tyre bars they are angled the right way so when youve got tyre over the rim they flick out and up not down and twist to the fresh paint

Lube is your friend keep the tyre bead in the well and its a pleasure to fit tyres.

Sadly I don't have any proper tyre levers, I have to make do with whatever i can find, pry bar, broken loader tine etc

Was the cab in a bad state?

Was the cab in a bad state?
Not to bad its the qd cab made the tractor awful to drive the customer reckons, it needed abit of work here and there all 4 bolt that hold the lift off bit on had snapped in the inserts bit of welding on the mudgaurd tops under where frame sits
Will be far nicer without cab and quieter:)
