Actually No. The old 175 was fitted with the Perkins 4/236 producing 66hp . We had one and we thought it was a good tractor but some farmers found it a little bit underpowered so Massey replaced it with The 178 which was basically a 175 but fitted with a 72 hp Perkins 4/248. Later the 178 was replaced by The 185 which had the same 4/248 engine as The 178 but tweeked a little to give 75 hp. The 188 was The full spec version of The 185 it was the same hp as a 185 and indeed shared The same 4/248 engine. The MF 168 had actually a bit more power than The 165 mk2 as The 165 had The Perkins 4/212 engine but The 168 had The 66 hp 4/236 as fitted to The 175! Confused? So then the 188 is the "full spec" version of 178
Sames engines then in 188 as the 178 if ive read it correct?Actually No. The old 175 was fitted with the Perkins 4/236 producing 66hp . So what was the point of the 175? Would be better with a 168Actually No. The old 175 was fitted with the Perkins 4/236 producing 66hp . Well 188 has 248 engine and 2 spacers, that I know for sure, and wet brakesSames engines then in 188 as the 178 if ive read it correct?
The 175 and 168 tractors were not in production at the same time.So what was the point of the 175? Would be better with a 168
I'm confused
I suspected thatThe 175 and 168 tractors were not in production at the same time.
Yes Perkins 4/ 248Sames engines then in 188 as the 178 if ive read it correct?
Yes same farm from newEven the right puh on it, original wings as well, a cracker
Seat easy then thanks,The last of the 178s had the spring suspension seat the same as the 185 188 one that age would have had as standard the same as a 165 with the sloping riser and the number plate on the bracket bolted to the seat back . You might need to get creative with the welder to get stays long enough
Aye yes thats right also the t bar is longer in the fork for the top mount too on theseAye its just the same as this View attachment 524046 but longer stays to fit the lowered hook bracket
