How would that Fendt compare with a German built 9 or 1056? How were they spec'd in comparison?
I don't know but years ago l remember seeing an 856XL working in the same field with a Fendt 309 ( both 4 wheel drive both 4 cylinder turbo and both rated around 85 hp ) pulling identical Kv ploughs and the Fendt left The IH standing!

Comparable engines imo.
Fendt is 40km with Turbo clutch as standard, just a conventional clutch on a 956 with 40k as an option.
Non clutchless splitter on both. Sensodraulic would be better than the system used in the earlier fendts but bosch electronic linkage controls were introduced around 85ish which was space age for the time. Dry disc brakes would be the fendts biggest downfall.

Knowing what I know now about the older fendts they are twice the tractor of the Nash quality wise.

Good paint says a lot about attention to detail if you have something good underneath you want to preserve it.

+1 for the brakes

That was the prob with the older Renaults too, the dry brakes ( By coincidence both Fendt and Renault both used the MWM engine, probably one of the finest tractor engines on the market at that time) French farmers used to say "Rien n'arrête un tracteur Renault, pas même les freins!" (Nothing stops a Renault tractor, not even the brakes!) A bit different to the old Massey 1100 we had, unless you were going at a snail's pace, just lightly tap both brakes at the same time and your head would probably (and very quickly) meet the windscreen!

Looks great. Would love to paint our 550 but wouldn't want to put it back on the yard scraper if I did. Is this your full time job?
Thankyou, Yes my full-time job,
Aye you wouldn't want to put it on the scraper it's not as simple as a repaint either that's the problem.
The 500 series cabs are not exactly the best for being sound.
The problem is that there are far to many pieces of steel that are unpainted and open to the elements, panels are spot welded which allows water to track in.
They basically rot from the inside out

But if you wanted to put new life back into the scraper tractor, consider an in-house paint job. You soon become more interested in keeping it right when it looks well. Wouldn't cost that much a bit of paint and time, wouldn't be to the above standard, but adequate for a working scraper tractor.

I might give it a go in the summer. Roof definitely needs something done to it before it rusts away. I've a brother in law who would love to get his hands on it so maybe go for it

If you don't mind me asking which part of the country did the 614 come from ?
In the Early 90's we had a 615 which was the big brother to a 614 which was sold by the previous owner locally ( Newent Glous ) when my employer sold the cows and machinery in 2000 the 615 was bought by a neighbour who had eyed it up for years .
Hell of a tractor MWM engine ,Turbo clutch , ZF transmission with creeper only ever had a gasket on number 6 pot , and a PTO bearing in 18000 hrs !
The tractor came from Bill benett and Bavenhill Mechanics looked after it for us .
Happy days
